I literally have never written an amazon review, but I feel compelled to recommend this harness to anyone who has a dog with mobility issues. I've only had the thing for less than a day and it's completely changed my dog's attitude (and mine!) about the stairs. He's 11, weighs about 45 lbs, and has been very athletic his entire life, but after surgery on his legs two years ago he's lost quite a lot of muscle mass on his back half. Add that to me having a baby this year and being unable to carry him around and up the stairs, and it's made his confidence absolutely plummet. He's been falling up and down the stairs for months, which has made him scared and clearly caused him a lot of pain, and caused me an insane amount of stress because I can't help. This thing has changed that overnight. It's made going up the stairs fun for him again. He's practically flying up with minimal effort from my end. Just a little bit of lift (with one hand!) and his back legs can actually make it onto the steps and find purchase. I'm barely putting any effort in at all! And since I'm able to use it one-handed, I am able to carry my baby around and ALSO help my dog up the stairs. No more screaming baby when the dog has to go potty! I taught this dog how to use stairs when he was little and now this harness has suddenly made going up and down a fun trust building exercise between us again. I hadn't even realized that I missed having those kind of moments with him! It seems well constructed, extremely simple, but it feels sturdy. The support pad is surprisingly firm. I can't attest to the longevity of the harness, but frankly I don't care, because the relief of seeing my dog feel confident again outweighs the cost of buying this more than once if I have to. That being said, I would be extremely surprised if I didn't get a lot of use out of it since it's engineered so that, with my dog's cooperation, the harness doesn't get pulled or strained at all. It's not invasive, since it's really just a big strap, so my dog barely notices it's there and it's not a fight to get him to use it. Plus the simplicity of the design + lack of buckles or anything make it worth the effort to use- kind of a low effort high reward situation, since my dog needs to go downstairs to use the potty so many times a day, it would be extremely annoying to have to buckle and unbuckle him every time I needed to use it. After months of trying to find accessibility aids for my aging dog, this is the first product that has worked perfectly from the jump. It feels like the first real step in regaining my dog's independence.

Purchased the right size for my dog’s weight but when I put it in him it slid right off. Couldn’t pick him up at all. It slids off and doesn’t grip around as shown in the photo.

My dog is around 10 lbs so I ordered a small. Her back legs don't work too well and she loses her balance when she goes potty and needs my help. Pros: It's well made as far as quality goes and I love that it's soft on my dog's belly. I'm able to hold my dog up when she goes potty and this thing holds its shape so it doesn't roll down as it would if you were using something like a scarf. Cons: Personally, the design leaves a lot to be desired. First, it's too wide from the front to back legs for a small dog. It needs an inch or two removed. It wedges itself against her back hips and causes her to go limp or fall. I learned to hold the sling up and forward so it's closer to her front legs, but it takes a lot of work. When my dog, like many dogs, walks around in circles to find the right place to go I have to walk right next to her and I have to hunch over a bit to keep up the strap forward AND straight up. If I don't, she will either fall over or she'll get her back feet over the strap. With the straps being the length that they are I have to be so close to her that I can't make any missteps to prevent her from falling or escaping. Also, I'm 5ft tall and the straps are barely long enough. It is way too short for my husband who is 6ft tall. My biggest gripe with this sling is that there no velcro to hold it in place. this means you have to hold the straps up firmly in the right position so your dog doesn't fall or get out of it. I'm hunched over walking in circles and holding it up and forward, but my girl can pull a fast one on me and turn quickly so if I'm not on it she can easily slide out of the sling. For a small dog, she has long legs so I think a short legged dog would have no problem getting out of it. If she manages to get her feet over the sling it's a struggle to get it back under her because she's trying to find a place to go but I'm stopping her, so even before I get it fully under her she moves and gets her foot caught in the strap which is a loop. I do like that the straps go across the front as well as the back for more support though. Basically it gives me a bit more control when helping my dog to balance herself as she needs more support on the back end. But, it needs a tube to go over the loops to prevent their legs from getting caught in them if they get out of the sling while on a pursuit of a poop spot. Btw, I did add velcro to this and it made a world of difference. Straps still need to be a bit longer though.

This was a lifesaver to help my dog when she was temporarily paralyzed. I was able to stand her and do “PT” to promote and initiate truck and leg control. I also used it teach her to walk and potty. She is completely healed from her injury with this and miracle Vet help. Highly recommend.
