Honestly the burl walnut on this is amazing. I have a burl walnut antique jewellery box my father gifted me for my 16th Christmas present, I own very little jewellery, but the box is a treasured gift. This would be a treasured gift, given to someone who wants to play a traditional strategy board game.The quality of the item is amazing, the price is high but honestly everything about this smacks of quality.It came wrapped in another very large box, there was so little chance of damage in transit. The pictures really say everything about this item.I love playing boardgames, not so my husband, but we are both in the process of having operations and recovering from them, which means several weeks indoors, his first, then mine and this is just the sort of thing we could do to alleviate the boredom.When we first got married we had no TV for over a year and we played Backgammon and Scrabble regularly. As an ex teacher and someone who now has much older relatives, I realise the benefits of keeping your mind active and agile. This would make a great gift for someone who never mastered chess, but likes to play other boardgames. Doing activities such as this will keep your grey matter ticking over. I am going to persuade my husband to play with this instead of using his phone.As someone who loves hand crafted wooden items, I think this is superb.This company does a variety of sets ranging from £55.00 to £439.00, they all look very well made. I also liked the look of the green oak one £185.00, but I do think if I had to make a personal choice of all the sets this would be the one I would have picked out of their complete range. I also think it would be the one my mum and dad would go for. I can see a games evening coming on.More than happy to recommend this, it would make a fantastic gift for a backgammon player to celebrate a decade birthday or perhaps as a very posh retirement gift ...A stunningly beautiful piece of craftsmanship.

This is one of the great game boards ever. Backgammon is a great family game and this game board looks very expensive with really great details and appears to be sturdy and well crafted. The stitching on the game board is excellent. I hope my child practices enough to where she can beat me and become more confident with the moves that she make. I hope she will start teaching her friends as well. Just the right size and it is easy to store. I do also appreciate the instructions and game variations included. This is a perfect set for training and for travelling.
