Another great book by Rebecca Ross
Rebecca Ross has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I started with Sisters of Sword & Song and am trying to work my way through the rest of her books. Divine Rivals and Ruthless Vows were just simply excellent. I know the genre is technically fantasy, but magical realism comes to mind. This world felt so real and relatable, and there was just a pinch of magic and the power of gods that made it otherworldly. The words are lyrical, creating paragraphs and chapters that flow like water and makes it feel like no time has passed when you've read 100 pages. Everything is so vivid in detail and I can picture the world and characters so well in my mind. Rebecca has power in her words and they hit me right in the chest sometimes. There's not necessarily a lot of action and I've seen some people complain about that. I think there's a lot of focus on character and relationship building, with action from the war being secondary. And for me, the slow burn, rivals to lovers arc was teeth achingly sweet and absolutely delicious. My heart positively swooned whenever Roman and Iris would write letters to each other and I was grinning like a fool when all of Roman's memories came sweeping back after seeing Iris for just a few minutes. This is 100% a five star read for me based off vibes and the feeling it gave me. I don't even necessarily think there was any plot holes. I will say though that I wish more time was spent exploring the history of the gods and the true story of what happened between Dacre and Enva. All we got was the story that Roman found and passed along to Iris, and I just wanted more. I wanted the perspective of both sides and what Enva got up to as she was stuck in Oath. I also wish that more time was spent on Forest. He seemed like such a focus in Divine Rivals, with the search for him and that shocking ending. That build up just fizzled out so quickly in this one and I feel like he was hardly included. One last random thing, I thought Dacre seemed to trust Roman a little too quickly in my opinion and I just didn't understand that connection. This was an excellent conclusion to the duology, although I think there was enough there that this could have been a trilogy. Just beautiful writing and captivating imagery.

Fint omslag, gillade inte boken
Tyckte boken var vacker på omslaget! Själva berättelsen var långsam och händelselös
