So good non vegetarian/vegans like it!
I went vegan about 9 months ago as a last ditch effort to control my Crohn’s disease. Long story short, it’s been nothing short of miraculous how much it’s helped. So much so that my doctor and surgeon have completely changed their minds on the future possibility of my Crohn’s and health. With that being said, going from living on dairy and meat to cutting it all out was VERY hard. I’m always trying new things in hope to find something to help make life a little more normal. It’s even more important with being married and having a one year old when they’re not vegan.A friend of mine who’s wife is vegetarian told me about this. He’s not a vegetarian and I’ve rarely seen him eat anything other than meat and he liked it so I figured it must be good. When you first open it and pour it out it’s hard to believe it will become anything like meat. After adding the water it already starts to resemble raw meat and the seasoning smells very good. Once you take it out of the fridge it acts ALOT like ground meat. The texture and ability to form it into patties etc...is as close as you can get. We decided to make sloppy joes first to try it out as we were planning those for our kids first birthday party. After cooking it and making the sandwiches it was nearly the same as ground beef sloppy joes. The main difference is it’s just a little softer and not as chewy as meat. My friends suggestion was to cook it extra and it’s closer to real meat. Regardless, it’s 1,00000000000 % better than any veggie burger you can get. I like veggie burgers but they’re nothing like burgers. They were so good we decided we would make all the sloppy joes for our sons party with this. It was a one year little man theme so they were MANwiches using Kings Hawaiian rolls, not for me though :(It was good enough that we didn’t tell anyone what it was other than a couple people and only a couple people asked what it was, mainly because I was eating it. There aren't many vegan or vegetarian options you can feed to 50 people who eat meat!

Amazing!!!!
This mix is so versatile! I've used other dry power vegan "meat" mixes and they are too sticky, and you end up making a meat pancake that is hard to chop up for "ground beef." When you take this right out of the fridge, you can form patties, meatballs, etc. Then when you put in a frying pan with some oil, it chops right up! This goes without saying but in addition to making burgers or sausages, you can use it (crumbled style) in spaghetti, tacos, chili, lasagna, enchiladas, pizza, dumplings, calzones, sloppy joes, quesadillas, hamburger gravy... Honestly you can use it in virtually anything to replace ground beef! This doesn't take up freezer space (or get freezer burned) like other vegetarian "beef" crumbles. It won't go bad in the cupboard. You can even take it backpacking! It is also much more economical than the prepared, frozen vegetarian "beef" crumbles. These pictures were dinner tonight: spaghetti and meatballs. I baked the meatballs (according to the directions), then finished them off by pan frying a little. Delicioso!

Nice substitute for dried or lunch meat used on sandwiches.
This is really good best veggie burger I ate in a while, I sometimes try the frozen types and it doesn't taste right maybe the ice gives the product separation? Been trying to find food that has a decent balance for meals, most of it is just snack foods and fresh delivery can't be offered in my neighborhood. The flavor is like a mix of mushroom, hash brown potatoes, parsley, and garlic and also onions so when it fries with oil it has the same charcoal outside of meat burgers. I cooked it 10 minutes on the gas stove top and I used a glass lid to have the steam cook the inside then I microwaved it for one minute cause I don't know if it would be good raw.

Overpriced for what it is
This mix is made almost entirely of garbanzo flour, which is roughly 5 dollars per pound. The mix is roughly 25 dollars per pound. If I had known that, I would just buy the garbanzo flour and other ingredients. You are paying them around 20 dollars just to mix them for you and put it in a bag.

Spice it up!
I have been eating the Harmony Valley Vegetarian Sausage Mix for two months now, and I can highly recommend it. A few practical notes:First, if you want more of a true 'sausage' taste, add some spices. I put the sausage mix into a bowl and then add two tablespoons or so of Italian Herb seasoning, then mix it well before adding water.Second: The instructions call for one and one-fourth cups of cold water. I use one and a half cups, which makes the sausage more moist. I do cook mine stove-top, in a pan, over medium-high heat, for about 2 minutes per side (until brown). It does not require much cooking. I make 10-12 sausage patties out of each package. Finally, as a insulin-dependent diabetic, this sausage does not affect my blood sugar. If I have read the package correctly, there are approximately 21 'net' carbs per total package, so divide said number by the number of patties you create. Here are the ingrediants listed on the Harmony Valley website:Soy flour, soy protein concentrate, vegetable oil (soybean and/or palm), wheat gluten, isolated soy protein, natural flavor, methylcellulose, salt, extract of malted barley. Contains 2% or less of spices, yeast extract, and beet powder.I am not sure what methycellulose is (some type of plant-based product), but it is actually sold on Amazon, and reviewers say they use it to make a glue! Other websites say that it is used to treat constipation. Anyway, it is the reason that you must use cold water for the mix (it only dissolves in cold water).Anyway, a very good, easy to use vegetarian sausage mix. I also like the hamburger mix, but I give the edge to the sausage, and so I now purchase only it.
