THE SWEDISH ECO-FRIENDLY DISHCLOTH: The dry sponge cloth was invented in 1949 by the Swedish engineer Curt Lindquist, who discovered that a mixture of natural cellulose and cotton (70% cellulose and 30% cotton) can absorb an incredible 15 times its own weight in water. These thin Swedish dishcloths have had a presence in most Scandinavian homes since then. They make a great alternative to paper towels for general wiping up and light cleaning and are perfect for homes, cottages, kitchens, boats and bathrooms. When they become wet, they are very soft and they also dry very quickly. Quick drying fabric prevents bacteria from spreading. These can be machine washed at 140 degrees F and re-used. When they are ready for disposal, simply toss in your compost heap where they will biodegrade. With the charming, classic and modern designs, we are confident you will find many designs that you will love. 100% biodegradable and fully compostable means eco-friendly. Beautiful and affordable for gift giving. Our sponge cloth is made in Europe. Our Swedish dishcloths are individually printed with water-based inks. Each one measures approximately 6.75 x 8 inches. Functional Scandinavian design. PLEASE NOTE: these are dish cloths, not dish towels. Intended use is for light cleaning, wiping up spills in kitchen, on counter, in refrigerator, washing dishes, etc. These are not towels for drying dishes. Size: 6.75" x 8" and less than 1/8" thick so drying is fast and prevents bacterial growth. PLEASE NOTE: The Swedish Dish Cloth is actually a sponge cloth - it is meant to be used when damp and even though it is stiff at first, it becomes soft as a chamois when wet. Wet it, squeeze out excess water, wipe surfaces, rinse, use again or allow to dry. Because it will dry quickly it does not allow for bacterial growth. After use rinse it then allow to dry. It will become stiff again until dampened.
