This doesn't look like it allows for easy yeast recovery, which is one of the primary advantages of using a conical fermenter. Is that true?

While a great idea it doesn't really work as well as planned. As long as your sediment is below the spout you till be able to rack and leave all the unwanted behind. The problem I had with it it that in the 4 batches of mead I made with mine The sentiment was always above the valve. If you're looking for yeast collection than you need to look for one of the conical fermenter's with the collection bulb underneath. This is designed to be able to rack off the sediment leaving it behind. All that aside my first unit developed a crack after the first brewing and the replacement cracked after the third. I have moved to the bigmouth fermenters and have never looked back.

I see a lot of feedback about beer. Anyone use this for mead?

I tried to make mead with it but it didnt work out to well because the lid dosnt create a good seal. Maybe you put some food grade silicone on the bottom of the lid to create the seal needed and oppen the hole big enough for a rubber stoper and airlock it might work, but the best bet is to use the 1 gal carboys.

anyone at brewdemon want to try and explain how a 1/2" bung fits into a 3/4" hole? Probably want to ship the correct bung with the fermenter.

First, we do not have or include a 1/2" rubber stopper. We do include a #2 rubber stopper with these systems (which has .62" diameter at the bottom and .83" diameter at the top). Second, you need to add the airlock to the stopper before placing it into the hole (this will increase the diameter of the stopper). However, we have seen some instances where this hole has been over drilled (beyond .75"). If this is the case, we would be happy to ship a larger replacement #3 rubber stopper. There is no difference between the weight of the amber and clear fermenter.
