Road Angel Pure - firmware upgrade makes even more useful.
Having previously had the Road Angel Gem Delux, I thought it would be difficult to better this product, however, Road Angel have done exactly that. The new Pure, is of exceptional quality with a mobile phone type screen. It’s easy to update from any wired or wireless device and associated app, with inbuilt help facilities. At first, I did notice a lag in GPS speed however, this has been resolved by a firmware upgrade. The new windscreen mount is also most useful, stopping one from having to readjust too much ones eyesight between road and device in order to read.I find the minimal buttons (2) a far better operating design. There is less to get wrong, and less to fiddle with once setup and using.I would highly recommend the Road Angel Pure.

Great compact unit that has a battery issue
Excellent product, easy to use and easy to setup. I had a slight issue with my subscription not showing but a quick call to support had this sorted within 5 minutes and my subscription was extended for my inconvenience. The screen is easy to read even in bright sunlight and I have turned down the volume on the alerts as they too are very loud.Only real downside is currently it has quite a few miss alerts for surrounding roads as it isn’t snapping to the road you are on, but I have been told that a fix for that is on its way.----Edit after using for a few monthswell after 3 units in as many months I sent it back for a full refund, Road Angel Support were good at replacing the unit but they had the device more than me. There seems to be an issue with the battery on the device. RA would only return half the subscription even though it never really worked for more than a couple of weeks at a time.

Great bit of kit but expensive subscription service
Very handy piece of kit, it helps you stick to speed limits, when driving in areas unfamiliar it gives you plenty of warning about different kind of speed traps, the only thing I would say negative is that its quite an expensive purchase and after the few days of Free Trial you then either have to outlay a considerable amount for a subscription or commit to a 12 month £14.99 subscription, really for the price you pay for it you should at least get a 3 month subscription included, design wise/functionality it would be good if it powered itself down when ignition is turned off like the satnav does, very often I have come back to my van and the battery in it has died and it takes about 5 mins to power back up then. All that said I would recommend it, I read some reviews and they wasnt very good so I was reluctant to buy it but I have had no reason to complain

Definitely gives peace of mind and ensures I drive more carefully...
This is a really good product with comprehensive alerts, and generally reliable, but it isn't cheap and I do have a couple of issues with it which I would like to see improved. 1/ It doesn't power itself down when you turn off the ignition, which means that if you or another driver forget to manually power it down, then when you come back to your car the battery will be completely drained and it will take maybe 10 minutes of drive time to charge the battery back up enough for the unit to re-start. 2/ It interferes with my radio and makes the radio unusable. It is clearly not adequately supressed. 3/ Every now and then the speed indicator goes haywire and gives completely false oscilating readings above and below true speed. If the unit is turned off and back on it will usually then be fine, but this shouldn't be necessary, and I've never experienced this with my satnav. So I'm pleased that I bought it, but I would like these issues resolved please, Road Angel.

Too many alerts!
The Road Angel is a nice little unit that looks to be well made and has a great screen. My problem with it is just how many warnings it provides for camera vans. Rather than just alerting you where there is definitely a camera van present, it alerts you at every single location where a camera van MIGHT be. In a typical city there are hundreds of locations the police use for siting camera vans and so the Road Angel is almost continuously giving out warnings. This gets to the point where you just ignore them - which of course runs the risk of one day getting caught by a camera van that is actually there! Warnings can be switched off (or the volume turned down), but this obviously defeats the object of having the device. I thought that the police announced in advance where they were going to site the camera vans each day, but if they do then the Road Angel doesn't seem to pick up on this information. My only other criticism is that the manual is pretty useless and doesn't tell you what half the settings do. You therefore have to use trial and error to work things out for yourself. It's not helped by a pretty poor app.Overall, I will be keeping the Road Angel as it does provide good alerts for fixed cameras, red light cameras, etc. and the average speed check alert is also very good. It's just the camera van alerts that are a bit over zealous!

This SHOULD be the best device on the market
Compared to the likes of Saphe and phone apps, this is the most comprehensive and high tech device available. It has over the air updates and access to the Highways England database for live variable speed limits and a team of humans to update speed limits as they are changed by local authorities. It should be the very best!I regret to say that in my 13 months of ownership I've been really unimpressed. Even the 20mph speed limit change of Park Lane in central London (was 40mph over a year ago) has only just been updated. See the attached picture. This is despite me having completed all the firmware updates and returning my unit to Road Angel. They explained that despite having taken my money for the device and costly subscription, it might be April 2021 (+1 year since they encountered problems) until the unit would have a software update available to fix their bugs. This is a well established company who charge more than anyone else for their products and services and really could do so much better.
