The Water Margin: Complete Series [Blu-ray]

This is a Japanese 1970s show interpreting one of the four cornerstones of Chinese literature the "Water Margin" / Shui Hu Zhuan (水滸傳) / Outlaws of the Marsh. The TV series follows the stories of bandits in Song dynasty China who fight against the corrupt Chinese Imperial government and its corruption. Plenty of moral compass stuff here, plus some very amusing Confucian phrases "News of good behaviour never gets past the door, but a scandal is heard of a thousand li away" (Li is about 500m)The image quality of the content is to be expected for 16mm film for TV of the 1970s the quality of this release is far superior to previous versions I have seen. Never has Hu San-Niang (Sanae Tsuchida) looked so good! If you like 1970s Japanese action series and want an easy introduction to Chinese literature, then this is for you.

this is great.- always wanted this on Blu ray- i loved this series when i saw it in the late 70's (not so keen on the silly Monkey follow up series though)Lin chung (the main leading hero in this series) was my 1970's martial arts hero, just like bruce lee, jackie chan and muhammad ali.thanks for delivering this to me quickly too

Classic cult tv series. Various hero's fight against corruption in China during feudal times. The hero's come with a variety of backgrounds and different reasons for joining the fight. Yes the sword play looks pretty comical by current standards, but the story is a great way to get lost in fantasy. Highly recomended.

I used to watch this as a kid back in the 70's when it was on BBC2This Blu Ray Box set is great value, big improvement on picture too.One star missing as some scenes have been cut, why? i have no idea.

The quality was wat i expected. The only negative is that you can't choose the original language. I woud have preferred the Japanse or Chinese language. The description on the site about the original language is not correct.

I too watched this on TV as a young man and I enjoyed it hugely at that time. I bought the standard definition version and didn't enjoy it when I watched it this time around. The production values haven't aged well in my opinion. The fight scenes were very poor compared with what we are used to now. So disappointing.It would be great if the series was remade, to modern production values and with modern technology. I would buy that immediately.

Have had this on my wish list for ages as price a bit high. When I bought had been reduced a bit. With 26 almost 1 hour programs all in good condition I am liking this. I used to watch on TV but didn’t necessary follow story. With these DVD’s it is easy to watch from start to finish. Epic Story and very good actors.
