I only wanted the single wooden geared clock plan that was included in the book. I was aware that there was only this one when I ordered the book, so there was no disappointment there. I am currently working on my (first) clock so cannot say if it will work or not. I would have preferred rather more detail and advice, but knowing that the plan was originally included in a scroll saw magazine there were no surprises there either. I consider the plan mentioned to be worth the price of the book.

Wooden Clocks
The front cover suggested that the book would be about clocks built using gears. In reality, there is only one (BRILLIANT) example. the rest are examples of clocks using quartz movements.Still, a useful read and worth the buy just for the one set of plans for the gear wheel clock.

Maybe not what you think it is...
This book is well written and laid out, with sections to suit all experience levels of scroll saw users. However, be warned, if you're buying this book thinking it contains plans for 31 wooden geared clocks similar to the one pictured on the front cover - it doesn't. There is only one set of plans for a wooden clock - the same one shown on the cover - in the 'advanced' section and they are difficult to follow because the construction details are surprisingly brief. The remaining 30 plans are purely different scroll sawed designs that have modern quartz battery powered inserts mounted into them. A little disappointing for me.

After reading the reviews I was not going to buy this book but I am glad I did it's good, because it starts with easy projects which is good for a beginner like me

The front page picture does not correspond to my expectations: Yes, there is ONE plan on the mechanism of a wooden clock. The rest are plans on how to make wooden boxes. Not worth the price.

Useful introduction to scroll sawn clocks
Most of these projects use a clock insert but are good projects for beginners. Some are quite advanced though. If you want to build a working clock try Making Wooden Gear Clocks published by Fox Chapel for Scrollsaw Woodworking.

About the book...
I liked the book. It does have a couple of good scroll saw projects in it, but I just bought it for the clock on the cover. There is only 1 project in there for a fully wooden wheeled clock, so don't be deceived by the cover if all you are looking for is fully wooden wheeled clocks. Unlike the poor reviews, I actually "RESEARCHED" this book before I purchased it. I did build the clock on the cover which actually works very well. I will warn you that by the time you dowel and glue up the frame which did have a certain level of difficulty keeping the holes lined up you will most likely have to paint it. I tried to stain it, but it didn't apply correctly due to smears of glue on the wood grain. Despite a couple of reviews I read... The clock project on the cover does discuss the joinery which another reviewer says it does not. The plans in the book that you are to photocopy are to scale which means you can measure it with a ruler and measure out the sizes of your materials, but another reviewer says no measurements are provided. Also, it does talk about how it works and what role each part of the clock plays. So, if you actually READ THE WORDS in the book, it is actually quite helpful and informative. If this is the first wooden clock you have ever built I recommend starting with this one, and if you finish and still haven't pulled out all of your hair Google "Clayton Boyer" He has an excellent site and a faq page that addresses wooden clock building do's and don'ts.
