Excellent about making good choices!
This is a story about Melissa. She has a baby brother and 2 parents. She learns in this story the importance of making good choices! The author does a nice job taking different examples that happened to Melissa and what can be done differently when making a good choice!Melissa, learns to pause and take a deep breath like she’s smelling a rose! Thinking of the consequences of her choice!Different examples are given for choices. At the end is a list of good choices and other outcomes. This list can be a great talking/teaching point as the parent or other adult reading the book to the child, can figure out good choices together. This book is fun to read with lively rhyming sentences. The lovely illustrations follow along with the book and are very engaging.

We've learned to make good choices
We love these books! My 5-year-old has learned how to calm herself and practice self-control. Whenever she starts to have a tantrum, she grabs these books for us to read to help herself settle down. I’d say she’s definitely learning to make good choices!

Another winner by Elizabeth Cole
I'm not quite sure what captivates my 3 year old daughter with these books, but she LOVES them. This book is no exception to that rule. The illustrations are colorful and eye catching and the story is written in rhyme. In this particular book, the surprise of having the toy dipped in soup made my daughter laugh, but as always she seemed to understand the underlying message of the book by the time we got to the end.At the end of the day, the books by Elizabeth Cole all do a great job of helping my daughter think about being kind, practicing emotional regulation, and being inclusive of others. She likes the books because they're fun and colorful and I like them because of the lessons they reinforce.

Great Teaching Moments with Your Children
It’s good to see a character model a virtuous thought process as she goes throughout her day. I’d like to see a page dedicated to each stanza: that way, each idea can be highlighted, and the illustrations would be more inviting, as the pictures of the people are rather small. I love how there is a recap of moral decisions to make after the story is told. Another great addition is the link to the free coloring page!(Personally, I think the poetry is too wordy and can be more succinct, which would give a spectacular reading if concise. However, it reads well enough if you are focused on the teaching of morals aspect:))

Excellent teaching tool!
LOVED IT!! Another awesome book from Elizabeth Cole! As a parent, I absolutely love her books. They are well-written, relatable, and they make excellent teaching tools for your little ones. Since reading this book to my daughter, not only has she been more polite, but she is learning to help others make better choices as well.

Improve children's behavior through story
I really liked this book for young readers/listeners. Cole's background in psychology and education gives her the insight to write a good rhyming story that shows kids a better way to navigate their worlds when things don't go the way they want them to. In this story, Melissa sometimes erupts with anger or other bad behavior and regrets it later. Her dad helps her regulate her behavior by having her practice stopping, thinking, and breathing. The story continues by showing how that works for Melissa. The back matter includes a chart of choices and an author note directed at the reader. None of us is perfect, but we can help children behave better by giving them tips like this that they can use. Tips in story form go down more easily than lectures every time!
