Practice Makes Perfect: Complete French Grammar, Premium Fifth Edition

On y va! Great for advanced beginners!
Each book in the Practice Makes Perfect French series has its own charm and reasons to purchase. Since these books are readily available and quite affordable in the USA as opposed to 100% French only language textbooks, I prefer them.Note: The back cover McGraw-Hill rating lists this book as Beginner-Intermediate. This book is more of a reference for false beginners or those who are already enrolled in a French course. I wouldn’t recommend this to someone who has absolutely no French knowledge and is self-teaching.Pros:1. Sufficient practice exercises to practice verb tenses, adjectives and comparisons, pronouns (including relative pronouns), and what the author calls “Pot pourri” in chapter 27, which contains what I would call “intermediate" expressions, and I wish there were much more space dedicated to them! Avoir beau, quitte à, quoi que [subjunctif], etc.2. Translation exercises aren’t always super easy. You have English to French and French to French to make it more realistic. They are relevant to the grammar of the chapter, however, so that provides the guidance necessary.3. The example sentences and vocabulary word banks are from a host of topics from politics, the justice system, and medical ailments to the fine arts, music, sports, and cooking. You will be able to construct logical, grammatically correct and topical sentences in French.4. McGraw-Hill Language Lab App - online audio for exercises and example sentences in France French and Canadian French voices. The audio tracks reference the appropriate page numbers so you can read along.5. Even though there is a 2024 version, the older versions have the same exercises, but fix any potential typos or dates to bring it up-to-date. You can assign this to a class knowing that even if students get an older version, you’ll be fine. It is an affordable study book in every sense.6. The latest 2024 Premium Fifth Edition includes a Review chapter that you can save to drill yourself every couple of weeks to make sure the information has stuck.Cons:1. Everything is fill in the blank or translate a sentence. Unlike some of the books by other authors in the series, your exercises and their subject matter stay only in that particular chapter. Not a lot of blending of different subjects.2. Some buyers may not be happy that Complete French All-in-One by the same author inclues 1-for-1 the same exercises. DO NOT buy both Complete French All-in-One and Complete French Grammar—you will be purchasing duplicate content when it comes to many of the verb or adjective exercises.3. McGraw-Hill should consider putting the learner skill level guage on the front cover instead of the back. People who purchase the eBook or purchase the book online do not often get to see the back picture or blurb saying this book is not meant for total beginners.4. The McGraw-Hill Language lab website goes down frequently, nearly twice a month. You need to ensure your students have access to a tablet or smartphone to install the McGraw-Hill Language Lab app because otherwise they cannot access the audio! I dislike installing applications for every little thing when there should be a perfectly servicable website available.

Está bom mas faltam certas coisas
Tem muita coisa onde específica o verbo mas faltam informações adicionais para conhecimento

Perfectly servicable
I feel like this is getting a bad wrap. The pages are a bit thin but you can write on and and turn pages with no problems. Very happy I got it.

Brushing up on French Grammar
Only up to the 4th unit thus far. It presents a good basic review of French grammar. The exercises are decent with correct answers found at the end of the book. I am not disappointed in this workbook at all.
