What's Good:- The display is very large and bright. We use this at a venue to keep the DJs from playing too loud, so it's mounted high on a wall in their line of view.- Setting a dB limit works, and the display flashes if the limit is reached. What's Bad:- The instructions aren't clear and are confusing. For example, it states it has an "Eternal Alarm Output Interface: Can be connected to an external 12V alarm" - the problem is that the label on the meter says 5v output. Thankfully, connecting a 12v strobe to the output did work, so it seems the meter isn't properly labeled.- The biggest issue I have is trying to get data from the unit, which for me is basically impossible. To power the meter, it uses a 5v USB connection. But, to track and read data from the meter, you have to use the same USB port connected to a computer. As there appears to be no on-board memory storage, from what I gather, you have to have a computer connected to the meter ALL THE TIME to be able to look back at any data! I would assume most people would want to mount this, as I did, high up on a wall where it can't be tampered with. Mine is located in a dance hall, with no computer anywhere nearby. So, for me, while you can technically get data from the meter, having a computer constantly connected makes no sense.I wish that there was some on-board memory that I could download the data from the unit (which is implied in the product description, "records the data of decibel level every 2 seconds, and be able to store ONE YEAR data"), but according to the instructions, that's not how this works. I tried reaching out to the company but didn't receive a response. Will update the review if I find something else out.Update: I've now had a chance to connect a computer to the meter, and discovered two things:1) As I suspected, the meter doesn't have any internal memory or clock that will continue to work when the unit is unplugged. Recording of dB limits is ONLY possible while a computer is connected.2) The Windows software that I was directed to download is useless: most of the menus aren't drawn correctly on the interface, and many areas of the software simply don't work. The software was obviously created in Chinese.Summary: The meter itself works as advertised, however if you're wanting to be able to have log files and can't have a computer constantly connected to the meter, this product isn't for you.
