I think I might need this one day.
It looks to be well made. It’s still in the sealed package. Don’t know when, but going to try it with a DAW that requires a FireWire 400. We’ll see one day

Causes Power Surge
Error message: Disconnect device drawing too much power from USB port. USB port shut down. To enable, disconnect device from port.-- Or something like that. I fiddled with it trying to fix the error, but the error is correct. This cable is not capable of converting the data to a format my computer can utilize. It's too big of a jump to go from firewire to USB.I purchased this to connect my old Time Machine hard drive to my refurbished 2012 Macbook Pro, in order to back it up so I could upgrade my macbook pro from El Capitan to High Sierra. I am going try again using a different adaptor to convert firewire to thunderbolt instead.

Good quality, works well
Occasionally, if you work with vintage Mac computers, you may need a FireWire cable. This one fills the bill.

Great adaptor
This worked well to convert old style USB units to the newer ones.

Destroyed My Laptop
Plugging this in, immediately killed the motherboard on my laptop. Even smelled the magic smoke. No warning or instructions with this cable.

This will damage your computer.
USB and FireWire are NOT interchangeable protocols. Plugging this into your computer will result in damage either to your computer, hard drive, or other devices. Do NOT buy this scam product.

My experimentation with this device was an epic fail. Please don't repeat what I did.
I can't say that my experience covers all possible uses of this adapter converter cable, but I was careful and thorough in what I did to test it.I opened the package. Everything looked fine and felt and looked like a quality product. Appearance, feel, and connector quality were all good.I use a MacBookPro (MBP) 16" i9 Processor laptop with the Sonoma operating system. I know that USB and 1394 (Firewire) are different architectures - on is parallel and the other is series. I was curious whether this device would truly be operable on my MBP.I got out my old Thunderbolt drives and cables and started to experiment . . . carefully. I do have some cables that have LEDs that illuminate upon power application, so I included some of those in the experiment.I plugged the adapter into a USB power source and then ran three different cables to three different Thunderbolt drives. No cable illuminated, nor did the drives indicate power.I then plugged the adapter into a USB 2 hub that has its own power source. The hub has a red LED that shows that it is powered. No issue with plugging in the adapter. No issue plugging in the cords (none lit their internal LEDs). The moment I added any drive, the LED on the hub went out, the drives showed no activity, and nothing registered on the operating system.I then plugged the adapter into my USB 3 hub (my 4th photo). No problem. Added the cable. No problem. Plugged in the drive. Suddenly, the blue power light on the hub went out. (Note that the bottom switch ring is not illuminated in my 4th photo.). I decided to switch the power to that USB 3 socket on and off only to discover that the switch is no longer functional, and that USB 3 socket is no longer functional. My belief is that the unit with the drive drew too much current on both the USB 2 and USB 3 hubs, and ultimately damaged the USB 3 hub. At no time did the Firewire cable LEDs function, and at no time did any drive indicate receipt of power. My intended use was to connect older Thunderbolt drives to my computer. Clearly, that did not work. I don't want to be tempted to ever try this again, so I have discarded the cable. If you have a different application, then perhaps you will have success. I have detailed clearly my application, and did not have success.
