The Guardian Herd: Landfall (Guardian Herd, 3)

The Guardian Herd series becomes better with each book
Some book series become unrealistic and full of plot holes with each book written. The Guardian Herd series becomes better with each book. Landfall is one of my all time favorite books. I love rereading it over and over again not just because I love to relive the excitement of the plot, but because every time I read it, I see the characters in a new light. They grow and change in so many positive ways.In many books, once a character does a bad thing, you expect them to remain an antagonist. Authors then try to change them into positive characters. But because they havenโt developed the story and characters enough, the change from bad to good is flat and unbelievable. Landfall does not have this problem. In Starfire (the first book), Brackentail is shown to be a mean bully while he taunts, teases, and beats up Star. He is untrustworthy and eventually called the Betrayer (for obvious reasons). But as Landfall rolls around, he does a complete 180. He forgives and apologizes and becomes an extremely likable character that you would want as your own friend. You get to see why he did all of those bad things and he really regrets it.Landfall has a well paced, smooth story line and a cliffhanger that makes you yearn for more. Itโs hard to put down.

Great book, but bad binding quality :(
My kids loooove this book, but the book binding quality is really bad. It almost fell apart from reading. Can you believe that? I wish I could return it before the returning window closed.

Book 3 of 4?
A review from my 12 year old: The third book of Guardian Herd lived up to the promise of the first two books. But it could have been better, too. I was hoping they would defeat Nightwing already since he had returned to Anok. Star's friends would have to defeat him so he doesn't take over Anok. The problem was that half of the Pegasi have joined Nightwing and will fight to the death against Star. But Star doesn't want to have to hurt any of them. Most problematic for me, I thought that Nightwing is too much of a boring and typical bad guy. He wants power and to take over everything. Nightwing's skills also aren't that interesting. He has a shield, a beam, and a fireball. Kind of unimaginative. But on the other hand, the book was well written and I enjoyed it. My favorite parts were the battle scenes. They were so exciting I didn't know what would happen next.In all, this book was ok. It had one main thing that I disliked (Nightwing being so stereotypical) but all the little details were great. I do recommend it, though, especially for those who liked the first two books. Especially since it appears there will only be one more in this series before the author switches to side characters going to a new land.

Great Pegasus series
Readers of Lasky's Wolves of Beyond series and any of Erin Hunter's works will be thrilled with Jennifer Alvarez and her Guardian Herd series! Strong characters, action, good vs. evil, and a new look at the pegasus type all come together for books that will thrill many in the 4th=7th grade bracket.

Excellent books!
Our 10 year old borrowed these from the library and then had to have her own. She loves them. There is some violence, in case this is something that your child would be sensitive to, but otherwise they are excellent books.
