This FTO – Field Training Officer Bar is extremely durable and meant to stand up to the rigors of public safety work and inclement weather conditions. The citation bar is 1-3/4 inch long x 5/16 inches high, with double, extra-long, lapel pin posts. Each post is extended in length in order to ensure that the posts can be secured properly on a leather citation bar badge holder. The posts are long enough to clear the width of the leather and then have enough length for a lapel pin back to grasp the post. Exact Specifications and Sizing: Soft Enamel process, 1-3/4" Wide x 5/16" High Law Enforcement adopted the military commendation medal concept of ribbons that signified a medal and were more manageable for everyday wear. Some departments still wear the commendations over the right breast, very much like the military. Other departments decided to have all of the awards on the left breast, in a leather citation bar holder. In the leather citation bar holder, the badge would be on the bottom, and the award would be worn above the badge. The highest award would be placed at the top of the holder and lesser citations would be below it, in order of importance. The Field Training Officer’s Citation Bar is worn as a billet bar or also known as an indicator citation bar. It signifies that the officer that is wearing the FTO Bar is a Field Training Officer. A Field Training Officer is a specially trained officer that is responsible for getting rookie or new officers acclimated to the field or roadwork. Their responsibilities include training the new officer the departmental rules and regulations, acclimate the officer to their new environments, etc. Still to this day, many departments have their own system for the citation bars. The American Flag citation bar is the most worn citation bar worn by all branches of public service that use citation bars.

Paint Peels/Chips Off
While the pin itself is pretty sturdy, the blue paint chips off. I only had it on my outer carry for a matter of weeks before the paint began to peel/chip off. I have other pins (i.e. the American flag) that I have worn for years without any paint issues. Too bad - it is a nice looking pin...
