Heaven Breaker Hardcover – 21 May 2024

I’ve read just over 130 books so far this year, and this one is my favourite. A blend of genres that makes familiar tropes feel fresh, with interesting characters and an engaging story, I’m excited to see where this goes if the series continues.

“Heavenbreaker” by Sara Wolf is a fast-paced, brilliant and unique sci-fi fantasy that I thoroughly enjoyed! Set in a dystopian future in space, it combines elements of “Pacific Rim” and “The Hunger Games” with a touch of Katniss Everdeen meeting Arya Stark from “Game of Thrones.”The story unfolds in a fascinating world of AI machines, deadly competitions, political intrigue, space-jousting, power-hungry nobles, and a fabulous rage-filled female main character.The characters in the book were also well-written. And I really liked that the romance didn’t overshadow the main plot, which was a refreshing change from all the romantasy books I’ve been reading. I do think we need more of Synali & Rax, because their chemistry was gorgeous!The multiple points of view made the narrative even more compelling, and all the characters were intriguing. The ending was stunning, and I’m very excited to see what Sara Wolf offers next with Synali and “Heavenbreaker.”NB: This is NOT a romantasy so please don’t get confused and then disappointed at the end. It is a Sci-fi fantasy with a tiny slow burn romance subplot (and this works well with the storyline).
