Still a great excercise regime.
I had this on video tape 30 years ago. It is still my go-to exercise routine although these days I use a lot of the alternative positions shown for people with joint problems etc. which is a bonus.

It works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus Christ...I did half of the exercises of the video yesterday not even the whole video, Today I am sore!!! and this is my first 15 minutes of callanetics! I never heard it before, I wanted to do something at home but not to bulk up and I discovered it accidentally. It definitely works, I feel the soreness very deep in my muscles and across my whole body. ..ok I am not super fit, not overweight either..uk size 10. this is no impact exercise, that leaves you feeling very relaxed afterwards like all the stress out of your body. I would encourage every woman of every age and every size who considers increasing her fitness to get it! everyone can do it! I will try to build it up to half hour/hour daily or every other day. UPDATE, I have kept going with the exercises, my body is now very used to them and I do not feel sore at all. I build it up slowly. I have learned them and do 30 min in the morning without the dvd and if I have time another 30 min or 10 at night. Its very relaxing and pleasurable experience. i do not feel bored. Personally I like more than anything else I have tried. My body is toning up and firming and it feels as if everything is pulling in and up. Its the first time in my life I really the way my body looks. It is very effective and if you have similar taste like me you might like it and find it addictive. the first exercise i manage to stick daily because I really enjoy how it makes me feel and look. very fast results. highly recommended by me!!

Good for any age/fitness level
I am in my early thirties but have had repeated spinal surgeries and chronic pain, i was trying to find a exercise DVD that i could actually attempt because nowadays you have to be a gym nut to be able to do half the things on these DVD's and my mother suggested this, she used to have the video in the 80's and raved about it. Callanetics is basically doing slight stretches and holding yourself in those stretches, doesn't sound much i know and you wonder how this will help to lose weight and tone up but OMG i was so wrong, the slight movements or placements of your body had my legs shaking half the time, even the old ladies in the video could hold poses better than me, i couldn't even get through the whole video, after doing only a couple of the poses i was sweating so much and felt like i had run a marathon. whats good though is that each exercise is broken down into sections so you can pick and choose which ones to do, for each option someone shows you a hard and easy way to do it so no matter how fit you are or any injuries you have there is a way around it. i really think this DVD could help me in my situation but it would also help anyone even if you are a gym nut and fit as a fiddle. give it a try, the only thing that stopped me from giving this 5 stars is that i wish the video was more upto date, the video is that of the one first done in the 80's so you can imagine what its like with the old women in leotards.

Fantastic.
I used to attend a class in the 1980s and it did me a lot of good but the instructress had to give up due to ill-health. I am now getting older and stiffer and starting to fall over unnecessarily because my core strength if very poor. I was thrilled to find this DVD. The exercises are carefully explained and adaptations are recommended for people with bad backs, knees, etc. The pupils on the DVD are not young and glamorous sylphlike models. No scarlet lipstick and false eyelashes here - there is a young lady who could be your daughter, and older lady who could be your grannie, an man who could be your dad, etc., so you won't find the exercise sequences intimidating and the presenter doesn't talk down to you.The exercises will not make you lose weight. They are based on gentle stretching and small movements but they do work and will improve your posture and suppleness and make you look and feel better. I find that I can walk taller and have less pain in my muscles and joints. However, it might be wise to check with your doctor if you have arthritis or any similar condition.I do the exercises before bed and find them relaxing and conducive to dropping off to sleep when my head hits the pillow!

Yes this was produced in the 80's but I know from experience that the exercises are really gentle, your body becomes supple and more toned .I did the hour long Callanetics in my 30's and felt great. Time passes, I am now in my 50's and having back problems - in the last couple of years I have fallen out of a loft and also on the stairs. I ache so much on an evening, that I feel 20-30 years older. I had bought a dance exercise DVD last year, but after doing them I hurt, so I gave that one to my daughter ( she is in her 20's). I was so glad when I saw this DVD on Amazon. I bought the DVD and did the exercises this morning and can feel the difference after one session, my spine does not feel so stiff and my body feels looser. I am so looking forward to being more supple and toned once again.

Go straight to Callanetics
I have been doing Callanetics for around years and decided that I would like to try a gentler, less time consuming routine so bought this DVD. In my opinion it would be better to buy the full Callanetics DVD and just do what you can to begin with and build up to the full work out over time. There is nothing wrong with this DVD but it's almost a 'one off' watch before moving on to full blown Callanetics. Callanetics is a fantastic way of exercising if you have a bad back. It really relieves tension. I really recommend it as a form of exercise that doesn't leave you feeling all sweaty.

Good to be Back!
Glad I bought this beginners DVD despite being familiar with Callanetics, as I did them years ago. It has helped me get back into these exercises easily and despite now moving on the 10 years younger Callanetics programme, I am glad I bought the beginners. Due to age I found this dvd useful as it shows alternative ways to do the exercises, as I have difficulty leaning on my wrists etc. Definitely feel and see a difference and great for my back - always had an issue with other exercise regimes - even yoga. This is the reason I have returned to Callanetics as it really works and is kind to your back.

Pleasant movements that work!
Beginning Callanetics is a good program for anyone of all ages to get in shape with. It's easy to do and has options for each movement to make it easier for those needing modifications. Her voice is so soothing also which makes it a pleasure to listen to. All round favorite with me now!
