Fire and brimstone gothic chiller set in the US bible belt. Professional sceptic of unexplained phenomena, Katherine Winter (Hilary Swank), is called in to investigate when a series of biblical plagues beset a small southern town. Thinking at first that she'll easily find human evidence in the occurrences, she soon comes to realise that there are some things that can't be explained away.

“Now I know I tend to jump to conclusions on these things but….” [Ben]
In this 2007 supernatural horror thriller Katherine Winter (Hilary Swank) has lost her faith following the death of her daughter, now, with colleague Ben (Idris Elba) they investigate claims of miracles. When Katherine is asked to find out why Haven's river has turned red. The locals tell her it is a biblical plague caused by 11 year old Loren McConnell (AnnaSophia Robb), who they believe killed her older brother in the river. The pair soon head for the river, but exactly what will they discover? This starts out being scientific but soon gets creepy becoming basically a modern take on the biblical plagues, but given a supernatural twist. If you can accept the pseudo religious prophesising and enter into the story, then there is actually very little to fault in this. The photography, sets, sound and acting are all very good and there are some awesome special effect to boot. The single disc opens to a 4 screen 53 language choice [ UK being no 52!] before playing 2 trailers/ads then offers play, scene selection, special features [science of 10 plagues, characters, a place called haven, the reaping;the seventh plague] and languages [English Italian, English narration, subtitles 5 languages including English and Italian]. Rated 15 this has 1 use of the ‘F’ word but the few remaining ones are mild. Nudity is indistinct and fleeting but most of the film has intense scenes, many being of a frightening nature. For late evening or night-time viewing this is a recommended view, provided you can handle the subject matter.

Not bad but then Hillary Swank helps I along
Like these sort of films, good against evil predictably including children. ReallyNice effects, story ok. But as Hillary Swank was topping the cast, it was a no brainer😅

Keeps You Guessing
This is a really thought provoking movie. It deals with Swank playing a character who was involved in missionaries with her husband and daughter. However she becomes a lecturer who disproves religious micrles. You find out throughout the movie why she left her religion and no longer believes in it.The main story begins when a stranger comes to her and her assistant claiming his village is experiencing the 10 plauges.they go to investigate and get more than they bargined for. This movie leaves Swank's character having to question many demons thats she would rather not. This movie is scary aswell as leaving you guessing all the way through the movie, whihc i love about thriller movies.

Decent film
A little bit mystery/mild horror, although fairly tame. Biblical theme, but not overly religious, just the general basis of a few religious stories... good twist at the end, and no I'm not going to tell you what it is in a review!
