AMC's Best Day Hikes Near Boston: Four-Season Guide to 60 of the Best Trails in Eastern Massachusetts Review: Beautiful and informative - When I told my friends we can use my book to choose a hiking destination, they rolled their eyes and assumed it would fall to the wayside while we decided. However, this book is highly functional and informative. It starts with a list at the beginning, broken up into region, that summarizes the length (time and distance) of a hike and any notable features like parking, snow shoeing, and water. Then, you can investigate each hike further once you've chosen a top few. Each destination has a 3-4 page spread that has a map of a suggested route, parking details (have you ever driven in circles looking for the parking or trail entrance? no longer with this book!), and some descriptions of what you should expect. I am just getting started with it, but I have discovered two new hikes, one of which was BEAUTIFUL. I like getting to know different sites that I would not have ordinarily found. Very valuable if you are looking to get out and explore some of the nature around you! Review: love this guide - I borrowed this guide from the local library and thought it was perfect for what I needed, perfect length info on each hike, how long, how difficult, exactly what I needed to find hikes for me and my boyfriend, myself and my mother, and me and my nieces and nephews. There is such a variety and really a perfect reference for details. I'd started by searching online with AMC as a member for activities and locations of local hikes (walks) and it gets tedious especially getting GPS coordinates, trail head locations, history, trail map, length, elevation etc. its all right there in this book. Buy it, it will be worth it.

This book was super informative and has given us some great smaller hikes ...
I bought this as a present for my boyfriend, were big hikers. This book was super informative and has given us some great smaller hikes closer to home on weeks were not traveling for bigger mountains. We've even found parks/trails that neither of us have heard of before, even having grown up in the area.

A great collection of trails close to Boston with maps
A great collection of trails close to Boston with maps, tips and info. I was amazed at how close and accessible numerous hiking trails are that have been hiding almost in plain view. The book details enough trails for several years of hiking and exploring within less than an hours drive in the Boston area.

Great set of hikes with good directions
Great short and medium hikes, many of which you can get to on public transit. Was a gift for my son who lives there and misses hiking. We tried out some hikes together and loved it.

A beautiful and useful book
This book is nice to look at, easy to follow, and very useful. The color illustrations bring the buildings and surrounding landscapes to life. It is a vast improvement over the black and white first edition.
