So, I'm not sure if it's just that my local finch gang are hyperactive rioters, or if this is yet another flipping awkward niger feeder - but I've taken it down after only a few weeks!It's a very well made and solid feeder, with a strong lid closure. But my finches (I say 'my' loosely, they are of course their own autonomous beings!) just throw all the seeds that congregate in the bottom tray, everywhere. Everywhere!I bought this feeder specifically because it has a tray - as I've been getting tons of daisies from flying niger seeds with the more common trayless types. But this feeder seems to just pool the seeds in the tray constantly. I feed every other day, at which time I clear out the tray, but it's always completely full. This, of course clogs the drainage holes and so the seeds just waterfall out of the tray in the rain!Between the rain (in the UK? Never....) and my thug-life finches it's been pretty useless for me, and now I have pretty much a carpet of daisies as opposed to grass at the top of my garden. (which actually looks quite pretty - but that's not the point! )So for me, the design failed.However, as stated earlier the feeder itself is excellent quality and may work for less boisterous finch gangs.Mine will have to just put up with sunflower hearts instead.

Brought this for Nyjer seeds to attract Gold Finches. Whilst its very sturdy and easy to assemble it is not as advertised in that its not suitable for Nyjer seeds. Gusts of winds cause the seeds to fall out through the mesh. I suggest the seller changes the description.

Very sturdy and the tray helps save seed

The birds seem to really love this thistle feeder. They took to it the first day it was out. It is very easy to fill and hang. It is also very nice looking and I appreciate it is not made of plastic which does not stand up well in our snowy winters.Had another brand and it began getting rust in the bottom tray and needed to be replaced. This feeder holds quite a bit of seed and is quite often covered with birds.We do not have squirrels or other types of critters in our area so I cannot comment on that.

Love this nyger feeder! The bottom come off so you can clean it out when the seed gets wet and clumps in the bottom...so very easy to keep clean. The finches love it too. This is the second one I have bought - the first one being 3 years old and still looks good.

Well made. Copper is pretty. I love it and immediately full of purple finches… hoping for the gold ones!
