a satisfying conclusion
While some might take issue with the lack of quantifiable feats and abilities from the Emperor and the general plot itself, I felt that the atmosphere was a fitting conclusion to an apocalyptic battle that has been built up towards over 17 years and dozens of moves and novellas. As a fan of 40k there will be things that frustrate you. The lore nerds in you will cry out. But at the end, it felt appropriate. The nightmare is over, and the dream will never be reclaimed, but it can be fought for. A new hell approaches inevitably, ten thousand years of terrible struggle and degradation as the faint concept of good becomes ever more elusive. But, in this day, here and now, the horror has subsided. An era has ended. Go into this with an open mind is what I advise, try and seek closure instead of hoping for something that will fit every preconception you have, and it will feel like what it should be.The end and the death.

Dan stuck the landing
Did I like every little part in the trilogy? No. But given the scope and constraints of the task, it worked. And having the final story in hand, it comes together as the final act of an epic saga that is essentially one massive story spread across three books. For me it accomplished the most important task in keeping enough suspense in the story that even though I knew the rough of the conclusion going in, I was still unsure how we'd get there. That's the biggest part hitting just right.

Amazing Finish.
Can not believe it is actually over. What an amazing ending to a truly great series. Was pleasantly surprised at the detail in the final fight. There are certain things that will upset people but those folks can not be helped. Accept that some of the story lines are meant to have open ended interpretations and you will walk away happy. Abnett delivers.

Dan Ties it together
Though there are many frustrating things mainly centered around the emperor that were never answered (why the hell he's a 50,000 year old godlike being implied to have been many history shaping figures such as jesus, alexander the great, and who knows what else is not broached at all) Dan manages to satisfyingly and believably tie together the "main cast" to come out of the several hundred name long dramatis personae and wrap them all up, and most of the ones we know go on to shape the galaxy are given decent setups, especially keeler, Abaddon, sigismund, and a few abnett book winks like lilean chase. Some moments fall a little slack, like parts of The Duel(yes capitalize that) turning into super-dimensional 'conceptual' fighting, or outright yugioh, and it has the classic dan issue of tons of buildup and drawing out of the climax to sheer story arc drop and end of book in a few pages, but given the sheer effort of the task of wrapping up this over-wrought series that he's contributed only marginally to on the whole, some of the issues can be forgiven.

Amazing conclusion to The Horus Heresy Series
It's been an amazing ride!! Thank you to all the HH writers and support staff. This book series may go down as the greatest in history...of any genre. Abnett thoughtfully works his way methodically thru the most important event in 40K history, providing plenty of action while adding so many intricate details. Very pleased with Volume III, just wish it didn't have to end.

After 18 years, Dan Abnett ended the series he started, and knocked it out of the park.
I started the series in 2006, and was brought to tears 4 times while reading Part 3. It is an absolute masterpiece. He and the team deserved this victory-lap, and it was absolutely amazing. I'm really happy I got to be part of this journey. I can now say I was there, both times, "I was there the day Horus slew the Emperor."

The Emperor Protects
Awesome. Just plain awesome. The author does an admirable job of ending the numerous sub plots that were remaining this late in the game. It does seem that he was still a bit too wordy at times. Either way the story was great.

it’s a must if you have gotten this far
dan abnett closed the saga, the story is amazing, but like with all large stories closing it out is hard, i’m sure Dan could have written several more volumesin this shows in the last few pages, where arcs, are either suddenly closed or just not addressed, and personally i was a little frustrated by thisi’m sure some of the stories will will be in the futureFor Loken, first amounts hero’s of humanity

What an apotheosis
After reading 64 books of both The Horus Heresy and The Siege of Terra, Dan Abnett magnificaly concludes this transition from a Golden Age of Humanity to the grim dark prospects of a galaxy, 10 000 years later. The tragedy is known, the events awaited, the path remains sumptuous. The author through the different chapters changes his prose according to view points and situations lived by loyalists and heretics (or was it the other way around ?).His afterwords are a lessons for those who may wish to write.

Fitting end to an epic series
Dan Abnett is a master. This was a suitably epic conclusion to a series I started reading back in the 2000s. It was so immersive when the end of the novel came I was surprised.
