Great activity
My kids loved this activity. It was fun for them to dig for treasure. One of my daughters took her time and meticulously carved out each rock. The other took a hammer and destroyed it in seconds. Both had fun and love the gems.

Fun and not too hard
The media could not be loaded. This was a surprisingly great activity. I have had bad experiences with dig activities in the past where sand or mud or charcoal dust gets all over the place. I laid out a big piece of poster board and put the item on top. With a little bit of water you can really easily dig these out and there was much less mess. My daughter is just under 7 years old and was able to do it all by herself. She loves the gemstones and put them in a little sack, which she took to school to show all her friends! She said all of them thought the gemstones were so cool! This is very giftable. It is not going to occupy your kid for a long period of time, but they will feel a sense of accomplishment upon pulling out each gemstone.

Super fun
If your child would love to collect these gems this is a great gift. My kids went nuts digging into it and breaking out the gems so the fun was over pretty quick. Still neat though and they loved starting a little gem collection. I think it's great for 7-10 year olds. My 12 year old was mildly interested but not challenging at all for her

My 7 year old daughter loved this gift. One of her favorite Christmas gifts and kept her busy. She easily found all the stones and we weren’t missing any. I bought another one as a birthday gift for her friend.

Nice but messy
Bought several for gifts. One was missing a gem stone; sad for the grandchild. Still fun and nice for the treasure box.

A little messy but worth it
My seven year old son LOVED this. We have never had a kit like this before but he played with this for over an hour the first night, which is unprecedented for him! It is a bit messy - dusty mostly, but nothing that won't clean up easily. Honestly it is so fun I would like to do one myself. It's really satisfying. I did worry a little bit about all the dust he was breathing in, as he has breathing issues but he was okay with wearing a mask.
