Tames the bite of my M91/30
After putting 20 rounds through my 1934 Izhevsk M91/30, it starts to get a bit painful to shoot the straight stocked rifle. The lack of an angle in the stock (unlike that of a Mauser) and the fact there is a steel butt plate resting in your shoulder while you fire a .30 caliber rifle makes it hurt to shoot after 20 rounds. I looked for something that would fit the stock of my rifle and another reviewer mentioned using this product with his M91/30 Mosin Nagant. So, I went ahead and ordered one. When I took it to the range to try out, getting the recoil pad on the stock was a bit tricky seeing how it is a tight fit and the original butt plate is a bit narrower than the recoil pad. However, once you get the pad properly adjusted, it works really well. I can put about as many rounds through my rifle without it becoming so painful that I don't want to shoot it anymore. Even with the recoil pad on my rifle, it will still hurt from time to time when shooting from the bench or prone but it's much more mild and tolerable. It's being used on a Mosin Nagant and when they were made, comfort and ergonomics weren't much of a consideration. However, with this recoil pad, I can shoot as much as I want to or how much ammo I have at that time with very little discomfort. If you also want to keep the original look of the rifle, you can take it off and not have to worry about any screws like with the mosin rubber butt pad. The quality of the materials used on the pad are excellent and I don't feel like it's going to break by taking it off and reapplying it later. Overall, I would give the Butler Creek Slip On Recoil Pad a 5/5 star rating for mitigating recoil of my m91/30 and allowing me to shoot more rounds downrange with far less pain and bruising.

Works on a K98 Mauser and a Steyr M95/34
Ok, I bought this mostly for the Steyr straight pull M95/34. If you have ever shot one of those little but POWERFUL rifles, you'll understand why I need it.I have a bit of a rough shoulder from lifting weights for 20 years and being a pitcher in baseball through college, so that little rifle makes my shoulder pop and crack and hurt for a week after shooting it.But, enough about me. I just tested it and it fits a K98 Mauser with a cupped buttplate. It's tight, it doesn't look great, but it goes on and off and is functional. It fits the M95/34 just about perfect.Hope that helps someone else, as I took a chance buying it since nobody mentioned those two rifles in their reviews.

Great cushoning.
Great value for a great product. I slipped this over the butt of my Mosin and it really made shooting that big boy more enjoyable. It wasn't 100% soft and cuddly, but it also wasn't a metal plate being shoved into my shoulder. It made shooting far more enjoyable for my aging dad, as even a 20ga will give him a big bruise. This made his time at the range a fun one.*2015 UPDATE*So I've had this product for well over a year now. My wife loves it. She loves shooting the Mosin, describes it "like shooting a bb gun". And she's only 5'2". Even my recoil-sensitive mom would give the Mosin a few shots thanks to this pad. I highly recommend it.

Great Inexpensive Recoil Pad
Great pad, not fancy and not expensive. $15 is much better price than the $40 I have seen for "more advance" recoil pads. Great addition for older guns with steel but plates.

works good, fits mediocre, looks tacky and brown color doesn't match anything.
works as advertised but fitment is not that great with my 30.06 stock because my stock has a built in cheek rest (like all good stocks will). Ackward color too: why no black color option? I have three different color wood stocks and it doesn't match any of them. It looks tacky and tacked on, not like something that is meant to be on the gun.BUT IT WORKS. REALLY WELL. Recoil heavily absorbed, didn't slip off or get out of position. Make shooting more then 10 rounds at a time possible without leaving a sore shoulder.

It looks great and fits the rifle really well
I purchased this for my father-in-laws Mosin Nagant rifle. It looks great and fits the rifle really well. My only complaint is that this thing smells terribly strong. If not for this I would have given it 5 stars.
