The lighting isn't harsh and it was a perfect addition to my son's themed room. It dings when you turn it on and has more sounds when you turn it off. As an adult ,it is fun to press and the quality is GREAT! As a kid, well - it's MARIO!

So first things first, this thing is dorky-cool.It looks just like the product pictures and works that way, too.A nice little touch is the rubber grippy feet that ensure it won't slide around while pressing down on it from an angle to turn it on or off.It comes in a retail packaging box making it suitable for gift giving but doesn't have the official Nintendo seal so doesn't appear to be a licensed product, if that's important to you.Mine didn't come with any instructions. Just the box with the light inside wrapped in plastic and a micro-USB cable. Why micro-USB guys? That's a dead cable. USB-C would have been so much nicer!Okay, so as I mentioned, it came with only the light and the cable. There were no instructions which didn't seem like that big of a deal but when I plugged it in, it immediately turned on and began pulsing. Pressing it would cause it to make a cute sound effect and cause the light to stay solid. Pressing it again would create the you-know-he-dead sound and then it would begin to pulse again.Cute but I thought that was supposed to turn it off. I unplugged it and it turned off. Pressing it, nothing happened.So I thought this was supposed to come with a battery and according to the listing and the outside of the box, it was supposed to turn on and off by being pressed.Not the end of the world - it's still fun and cute and the pulsing version was still kind of neat and I have lots of stuff that works with USB that I have Alexa-enabled power switches applied to but not what was advertised at all.So I left it plugged in a while sitting on my desk and when I went to move it, unplugged it and it stayed lit.Okay, it has a battery - it just arrived with no charge.I pressed down on it and it made the little sound and turned off.I pressed again and it made the other sound and turned on.So what I came to realize is, when plugged in and off, while charging, the whole light will pulse. When plugged in and on, it just acts like a normal light.I'm sure this would all be covered in the instructions if they'd been included and from one of the video reviews, it looks like some boxes do have the instructions but for those who got it like me, that's the deal:The listing says it has a battery. The box makes no mention of a battery and if there are no instructions, it seems like it has to be plugged in to work but it does everything it's supposed to and looks great.Would have given five stars if not for the confusing out-of-the-box experience but otherwise, fun little novelty light!

I did have to send the original back because it would not charge, but the 2nd one works great!This light has a comforting glow. It is plenty bright but because of the color of the light its not offensive. It makes fun Mario sounds if you want or you can mute them. When the battery get low the sound will play but the light will not. It charges slowly, but it lasts a long time. Overall I'm happy with this lamp!
