Jasper Johns: Regrets

For Fans and Maybe Others.
Slight but excellent gallery catalog showing how Johns developed many pieces of art from a single photograph. I am a fan of his, and found it intriguing to trace the variations in painting, drawing and prints evolving from a photograph of Lucien Freud. A very small area of his career, but a great mind still producing some excellent pieces made a fine exhibition. And a good understanding of the process gone through in this particular case.

Great paintings etc with some good reproductions
Great paintings etc with some good reproductions, but many unnecessarily small. The text is rather uninspired. A disappointing fussy book about fascinating work.

A beautiful book about a recent group of work - Regrets - by Jasper Johns. In this group of work he makes a tender conection between the American (NY) and the British (London) artscene, and amazingly - posthumous -makes a liason with Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon. Recommended!
