Really xcellent for the target market, though with one or two qualifications
Contrary to some reviews here, this is really excellent if you are buying for an older friend or relative. The battery life is phenomenal, and it even has a function where you can turn it off at night and wake automatically in the morning which would make this even better. Good build quality, feels very robust, the display is clear and simple. Contacts are clearly displayed, and its very nice to have the three buttons at the top of the pad for regularly called numbers. Message function is fine. There's an alarm function on the back which is slightly recessed, its not going to be called by accident. Moderate weight, quite light. The qualifications? You will have to set it up for them. The user guide is unreadable, and even when you download a pdf, its not very helpful. Trying to figure out how to lower or raise the ring tone volume, for instance? I gave up. But you can get the same effect by changing ring tones, so its not critical. The back is quite hard to pry off, to put in battery and sim card. But it does come off OK if you pry it open carefully and firmly. It doesn't have a radio function. It will take a 32G micro sd card however, and when you connect to a pc it will ask whether you want to go into mass storage mode, after which you can add audiobooks or music. If you want it to answer on opening, which most will want, that has to be set, so another dive into the setup menus. All these niggles only apply to setting it up. Once that's done, its going to be just about ideal.Recommended.

Super as a back up phone. Pretty good but not perfect for the elderly.
Super phone - I'm really pleased with mine. I bought it mainly to use as a back up phone for home and also because the EE signal here on my iphone is not great, but the SMARTY signal in the house is good - so I'm using this Panasonic as you would a landline, basically. Much cheaper than an actual landline, and great for emergency use. I bought this for about £38 on Amazon Warehouse (used, excellent condition). For me (44yrs old) - I have had no issues using the phone or working out settings, volumes etc - it's pretty straighforward to use and no instruction manual neeeded for me at least. Love the old school flip action to answer/hang up. Battery life seems excellent so far.Cal quality is very good but not perfect. According to Panasonic this phone is enabled for HD voice calls (also called VoLTE)… which basically uses the 4G network to enhance call quality. My SIM/provider I don’t think has yet rolled out this service to my area so I’m hoping this will soon happen so that call quality is even better.

Sturdy, good battery life, minute 'instructions' and text, complicated, NOT for Senior use
Very complicated, minute texts and instructions, good sturdy construction, okay for SHORT texts, dialling tone short unchangeable, very easy if call is missed, check small details, watch out for long conversations, eats up charging time, conversation can suddenly break up, become garbled, receive texts ok, sending texts, forget it, camera is good but again very difficult to set up, light strong good, sound average, instruction manual microscopic, PATIENCE IS NEEDED THROUGHOUT WITH USE, text is very complicated to use, thus short text and replies recommended, memory is needed for various routines to try to achieve your 'goal'. dexterity is imperative thus usage for the older user, keep away from this mobile phone

Basic but good.
Beautiful phone for the elderly, and extremely cheap for a 4G one.

Might be a good little phone - if it worked
Ordered one of these as it looked like a good bet for a new 4G device to replace a 3G-only Doro. First one arrived swiftly, loaded it up, added some charge and switched on. Splash screen and jingle appeared, then nothing more. Keyboard remained unresponsive - couldn't even switch it off. Returned to Amazon with request for replacement, which arrived quickly. Loaded it up, added some charge and switched on. Exactly the same fault. Contacted Panasonic support via website Live Chat, which was helpful, but agent quite quickly agreed that if further charging didn't help, the unit was beyond economical repair. Fault recurred every time, although occasionally managed to get into the menu system before keyboard locked up. Returned to Amazon with request for refund which was quickly issued.NB you can't (or couldn't a few days ago) download the user manual from Panasonic, even though it appears in the list on the support web page. The chat agent helpfully gave me the link to it; it's the classic cheap-phone type of manual, full of "you can" without telling you how to. Sadly I think this model was released too early without proper QC. To paraphrase Oscar Wilde, one faulty unit may fairly be regarded as unfortunate; two units with identical faults looks like carelessness.
