date Mamoul pastries
These date Mamoul pastries arrive in a beautiful round embossed metal tin. They look fancy and gift-like. You get quite a few pastries per box!The ingredients list is: "Wheat flour, butter, sugar, water, leaven, dates." (I guess "leaven" may be yeast or baking powder). I liked that there are no nasties in there or any artificial chemicals. The nutritional composition is: per 100g, there is- 30g fat,- 13g saturated fat- 53.5g carbohydrates,- 7.1g fibre,- 24.8g sugar- 8.6g protein.- 13mg sodiumTo keep these at their best the package says to store them at 15-20'C, in a cool dry place. In terms of taste: They are not very sweet; subtly sweet. They are very soft and have a lovely melt-in-your-mouth texture. Flavour-wise they are a little bit bland. I think if they had a touch more flavouring (sugar / salt / vanilla / any flavouring really!) they would have been nicer. But they're subtle and inoffensive, with a nice texture and mouth-feel. The dates don't taste strongly of dates at all - it's just a subtle sweetness. And the texture of the dates is very soft, smooth and melt-in-your-mouth like the pastry - there is no fruitiness or stickiness to it at all.

Mmmm, Reminds Us of Fig Rolls or Unspicy Mince Pies…..
…Well, we really like these tiny cakes. We love dates. We tried some different ways of eating them. On their own (lovely, particularly the pastry - think fig rolls, mince pies). With Greek yoghurt (also lovely, but felt more like a desert than a cake / pastry). We then added some prunes (which added moisture and all three went really well together lol)I even popped a couple in the Airfryer lol - I love what an airfryer does to any type of cake (leave it to cool, and the whole texture changes lol)We really enjoyed them -they didn’t last long. We loved the tin, and means they would make a lovely gift. Our reservations is that the second layer (please see my photo with red writing) ought to be the same quantity as the top layer (so more cakes, or a smaller tin) - I’m afraid, I imagine that paying customers may feel a little cheated when (excitedly) getting to the second layer, only to discover its less than half full.Dates are expensive - we use them a lot - and that is reflected in the price really - that, and the lovely tin that they are presented in.I would I think order again for special occasions or as a gift. Can happily recommend them for taste - but please do something different with the second layer (as I say, either more cakes, or a smaller tin, with equal layers)

Delicious!
I really enjoyed these - light, tasty, kind of similar to fig rolls but more refined and a little less sweet. You get a good amount in the tin and they seem to keep fresh for a good while. Although they're not cheap, I so think they're good value, simply because you get a really nice tin full of delicious date treats!
