Brace
Husbands broke left humerus. Was more snug than one doctor gave him. Measure carefully because it is tight. The sling support was a great item.

Works, But the Velcro Straps Are a Bit of a Nightmare
I fell and fractured my proximal humerus bone (the ball-shaped bone at the top of the arm that fits into your shoulder socket). I had two mildly displaced fragments although one was slightly more displaced than the other. Seeing as how they were only minimally displaced and not out of alignment I opted not to have surgery given that studies show having ORIF surgery doesn't necessarily lead to a better outcome than letting it heal naturally. Long story short, I bought this brace because while technically they can't cast that high for where my fracture was, I figured the steady pressure it applied around my upper arm might help squeeze the bone fragments back to where they belonged and keep them there so they could start healing in place. I was sent home from the hospital in a regular sling but every time I took it off to shower and start pendulum slings I could feel the bone pieces clicking with certain movements and that bothered me. What I liked about the Sarmiento brace is that it freed my elbow while supporting my upper arm and shoulder. My elbow had become very stiff from being bent in the sling and this helped me start moving and stretching my elbow and forearm without fear of further displacing the broken off bone pieces. I had very slight tingling in my fingertips on the affected arm so I probably had a little nerve damage going on from the fall. This brace allowed for better circulation to my forearm, hand, and fingers and the tingling did eventually go away as I continued to heal. I also wore this brace to bed a few times and felt that it was comfortable enough all things considered. The plastic did start to bother my shoulder if it wasn't secured high up enough and I did have to switch back to the sling from time to time. As far as effectiveness, my most recent x-ray showed that the bone pieces pretty much went back to where they were. Whether I can credit the Sarmiento brace for this I will never know, but I will say it certainly didn't make the fracture worse. The reason I had to knock a star off the quality is because the Velcro straps themselves were really hard for one person to adjust and tighten on their own. I feel like they were a bit too long and wrapping them behind the arm when in pain was not a fun experience. I did it (several times) but I also had to ensure the pieces were in the right order and that the edges of the clear plastic sleeve went underneath the soft padded pieces. Once you have everything in place it's pretty comfortable. I did have to rearrange the order of them to fit my left arm. The chest strap was great and really made my arm and shoulder feel secure and stable. Bottom line...if you have a proximal humerus fracture (or humerus shaft fracture), I would consider getting a Sarmiento brace to help it feel more secure than a sling and to allow your forearm to hang down and get your elbow moving again.

Humeral brace
The brace itself was well constructed but it was to long for the under arm. I sent it back.

Not good
You need 2 people to set this up and get it on your arm. I could not find a comfortable position and could not use. Oh and all that Velcro will test your patience. I am going to return.

Humerus fracture support
Very good support. the only issue with most of these braces is you need help pulling the straps around to properly attach them. Also, I do not use the sling enclosed, I use a more supportive one which was also purchased on Amazon.
