The sections showing geodesic domes, gothic arches, ridge-and-furrow designs, and hoop houses helped me understand instantly what shapes actually work in different environments. I also appreciated the CO₂ section. It doesn’t just hype the benefits. It explains the risks, the costs, when it’s actually needed, and when you’re wasting money. Very few beginner books are this honest and practical. If you’re planning to build or improve a greenhouse, this book is truly worth it. Highly recommended.

Thorough, clear, step by step, DIY method for building -- and maintaining (pest free, condensation free, mold free..!?) -- greenhouses & growing plants -- food & flowers -- in all sorts of well thought out & designed enclosures. It seems as though -- in surprisingly few pages -- just about every option has been considered & explained baby step by baby step, Even options regarding how, what, where, & why to sell what you can seemingly produce year round (if we can get everything -- timing -- just right: check the included charts!) We have been working on our modest greenhouse & gardening skills for quite some time. Grandmas, Grandpas, even Great Grandmas & Grandpas have all built & used greenhouses fairly extensively both in backyard & in family farms. So nothing in this book is completely unfamiliar -- & yet there is always so much to learn & keep abreast of. Modern technology is always improving &, therefore, this book covers an awful lot of ground for anyone -- beginner to advanced. Well worth the price just for the greenhouse designing advice & the seasonal planting charts. Recommended.

I bought this book because I already have a greenhouse and expected information about actually gardening in it. But I was disappointed because more than half the book was about building or buying greenhouses (and to boot, it didn’t really offer any plans for building one, just examples) even though it states that on the cover. Out of 23 chapters, only 8 were devoted to actual gardening. The book should have been titled, “Greenhouses and a Few Tips About Gardening”. I felt deceived by the title and I don’t recommend it for anyone looking for extensive information on greenhouse gardening.

With the economy struggling worldwide and food prices—especially fruits and vegetables—climbing higher, I’ve been thinking more seriously about how to grow my own produce. I have a large backyard that would be perfect for building a greenhouse one day. For now, this book is a little ahead of where I am, since I’m still saving the funds to get started. But Greenhouse Gardening for Beginners gives me a clear picture of what’s possible and how I could eventually set up a greenhouse that fits my needs. The book covers everything—planning, building, planting, and maintenance—so I know I’ll have a reliable reference when the time comes. Even though I’m not ready to begin right away, it’s encouraging to see that with the right setup, I can cut down on grocery costs and enjoy fresh, healthy food straight from my garden. This book feels like a good investment in my future plans, and I’ll be coming back to it when I’m ready to leap.

An excellent purchase for anyone who is dreaming of building their own green house. Not only does it have very detailed chapters on “How to Build and Plan Your Greenhouse “ (plus plans) but tips on growing veggies, herbs, fruits and flowers. Wonderful diagrams and photos! Definitely a five star plus resource!
