Perfect Drainage for Succulents & Cacti – Great Results with My African Milk Plant
I used the Back to The Roots 100% Organic Succulent & Cacti Mix for my African Milk Plant and a few of my smaller cacti, and it has worked beautifully so far. The texture is exactly what you want in a cactus mix. It’s light, gritty, and well draining without feeling dusty or overly chunky. Water flows through easily, which is crucial for succulents that hate sitting in soggy soil. Since repotting, my African Milk Plant has stayed firm and happy with no signs of root rot or stress. I also appreciate that it’s organic. It gives me peace of mind knowing I’m not adding unnecessary chemicals to my plants, especially when I keep some indoors. If you’re repotting succulents or cacti and want a ready-to-use mix that drains properly and supports healthy roots, this is a solid option. Great consistency, easy to work with, and does exactly what it’s supposed to do. 🌱

Excellent for Seed Starting
It's a good amount of coconut coir for the price. I'm seeing great germination rates. Awesome drainage and good moisture retention. Got a little bit of mold starting, but my seedling trays are covered, so the mold is unavoidable. 10/10 will purchase again.

Great soil quality, but damaged packaging on arrival
The soil itself appears to be very good quality. It is light and fluffy, and already contains a small amount of perlite, which is a nice bonus. I was happy with the texture and overall condition of the soil. However, when it arrived, the bag had multiple holes in it — almost as if it had been chewed through — and soil had leaked inside the shipping box. In addition, a spray bottle that was packed together with the soil arrived broken. The spray head was damaged, likely due to the weight of the soil during shipping. While this may be an Amazon packaging issue rather than the seller’s fault, the overall delivery condition was disappointing. The product itself seems excellent, but the damaged packaging really needs improvement.

No more gnats!
I’ve been using this specific mix for about six months now for my indoor pothos and spider plants. If you’ve ever dealt with those tiny black soil gnats, you know the struggle is real. Most soils use cheap bark fillers that are breeding grounds for bugs but this stuff is clean. Since switching, my living room is gnat-free. The soil stays moist but doesn't get swampy, probably because of the yucca extract they mention. My plants look greener and haven't had that droopy look they usually get between waterings. It’s a bit pricier than the big-box brands but not having to deal with pests in my house makes it worth every penny.

Saved My Gift
A very dear friend gave me a beautiful potted aloe plant as a housewarming gift when I moved into my new place. I was so touched but I am known for bad at keeping anything green alive. Within a few weeks, the leaves were turning brown and mushy and I felt terrible thinking I was going to lose something so special. I realized the regular potting mud I had used was drowning the roots. I ordered this specific dry mix hoping for a miracle. I am a first-time buyer and know nothing about plants but the switch was incredibly easy. The mix is so clean and doesn't have any strange chemical smells which I really appreciate. I repotted the aloe, put it by the front door, and just crossed my fingers. To my absolute amazement, the mushy spots dried up, and it is now growing brand new, bright green leaves from the center. It feels so rewarding to have actually saved it, and every time I walk through my door, I am reminded of my friend.

Not for aquatic use
DO NOT use for dirted aquarium walstad tanks. This is mostly bark!! It might be fine for regular gardening and planters, but not for tanks. Coincidentally, I am not 100% sure but I think this stuff might have brought aphids and fungus gnats into my tanks. I have no idea where else they could have come from.
