I don't have a clue as to why any reviewers of this whole rye bread product gave it such a low rating. I think either they haven't any idea what real whole rye bread should taste like or they're just from another planet or a time warp. I think that their taste buds must have been perverted from consuming too much white bread, junk food and must not know what a true wholesome food is supposed to be. But, I'm a dyed in the wool rye grain lover and this bread is simply terrific and has more than satisfied and lived up to all of my optimistic expectations. If you really love real 100% whole rye bread without any added wheat flour, preservatives, other junk additives or chemicals, as I do, then go ahead and check out this fantastic pure organic rye bread product. And, it also toasts just fine n dandy. Highly recommend. Delicious!

I love this bread! Mestemacher whole grain rye bread is so good. I toast it twice because it is so dense. Delicious! I had never had anything like it before. I just ordered it because I wanted authentic rye bread. I’ve been trying to eat better and this bread has lots of fiber, and like 4 ingredients. And I like saying the name. Mestemacher!! :)

Horrible and expensive. Texture is something like "banana bread" not quite firm and crumbly. Toasting twice to make it resemble more of a cracker is all I can do with it. Very dry and nowhere near the wonderful tangy flavor of a good pumpernickel bagel. Not worth $7 per pound

I am very thankful that I get to experience authentic pumpernickel bread for such a fair price, via the convenience of Amazon and Mestemacher. Before discovering this on Amazon, I thought I experienced pumpernickel bread before, but little did I know, so many of the "pumpernickel" breads that are sold, are not true pumpernickel--meaning just the use of whole grain rye flour. These other versions are filled with unnecessary ingredients like seed oils, preservatives, sugar, "enriched" white wheat flour to make it more chewy, etc. I was very surprised to find this on Amazon. The taste and texture is so very nice. Very excellent quality. The bread arrived fresh. I put it in the freezer and it toasts nicely. Highly recommend.

I have purchased this bread for many years from various sellers including Amazon. Very good quality and tasty AND it’s real rye bread, unlike the “rye bread” one gets in US bakeries. If Amazon ships this product in a box with adequate packing, loaves arrive intact. I love this bread, but not as much now that it has a 15% tariff added to the price.

Tasty and wholesome pumpernickel rye. I recommend toasted. Crumbles easy, so handle with care.

This bread is 100 % rye. Tasty, good for sandwiches. I have been eating it for years. I discovered I have IgE against wheat so it’s the only one I can eat. I have no problem with gluten though.

I've enjoyed this bread form Amazon and elsewhere. Having nothing to do with my rating, but hopefully useful for other customers: This is not the bread that most people in the US is are used to. It is VERY dense and a very different consistency, VERY whole grain (rough), so may not be what many like. Slices are VERY thin. This also make it more likely to crumble, sometimes get moldy too, in shipping. This is a high sodium and salt bread, so if you are on a salt restricted diet, not for you. My own review, rating related: I grew up on high and whole grains, so used to UN-American rough textured foods like this. While I am not on any salt restricted diet, I find the salt too high for my taste. One of the reasons we use less. At times, crumbling during shipping, and some mold, can be a problem. Also, the price has increased since my last order, now more expensive than other sellers including my local health food grocer, has made me cut the amount on my next scheduled Subscribe and Save order by more than half (60%)...I may just cancel it and get it locally. Hope you find this useful!
