Man's INHUMANITY to Man
While this was a very short book, it took a long time to read. It was very difficult hearing how the men were treated, and the excellent illustrations reinforced the torture. Powerful book, especially for those of us who endured/experienced the Viet Nam War. I salute the veterans for their service. War truly is hell on earth.

True American Hero
This book has been written and illustrated by a true American hero. Lieutenant Commander McGrath spent six long years as a prisoner of war. The book and illustrations represent a first hand account of hell on earth. Yet, years later, if you walked past him, you'd never know the sacrifice he made for The United States of America. Celebrate the true hero's of our democracy!

Man's capacity for inhumanity to man amazed; that any SURVIVED is ASTOUNDING!
A sketch on the right page, caption is on the left. The prose is matter-of-fact, as though the author/artist is emotionally detached from the reality of his existence. I had to cease reading from time to time because I had an inkling the conditions & events described, were more horrible, horrifying, physically & emotionally terrifying than the author was willing to say. He courageously tells his story for all those who won't or, to this day, can't. These Vets were kids who went where they didn't want to go, saw things nobody should see, did things they didn't want to do, endured that which no one should have to endure & did what most of us couldn't/wouldn't. It's a short book, but if i's read quickly, without thought one does himself & the author a disservice.

Five Stars
Beautiful book, arrived sooner than expected. I read the negative reviews about this book because I couldn’t imagine how someone could leave a negative review. One of the reviews mentioned this book was nothing more than pictures. Yes, this book is filled with drawings that a prisoner drew during his time in a prison camp. Out to the side of each drawing is information about what it’s like to be in that prison camp. So I guess if intimate drawings that a prisoner drew while defending his country aren’t your thing than this book isn’t for you. Otherwise it’s a very humbling book and I highly recommend.
