Classic and Sports Car Magazine A-Z of Cars of the 1980s

Takes me back.
I must admit that I hated these cars when they were brand new. Back then I was a teenage classic car fanatic who preferred automotive charm to blandness and the aesthetically pleasing lines of older vehicles instead of the aerodynamic efficiency of modern machines. Now, in 2018, vehicles from the 80s are rarely seen on our roads so, as one tends to do as they approach middle age; you start to have some nostalgia for the things you remember from your youth. As always with the books in this series, there is a small black & white pic of each and every model on sale in Britain during the period covered. Different body styles and engine sizes. A brief description of every model. Production figures if available and, for the first time, the top speed of each car is quoted too (as well as 0 - 60).Once again, as I discovered in the 1970s A-Z; the publishers haven't bothered to update certain facts; like when a vehicle ceased being in production for instance. This book was first compiled back in 1994 and, though the one that I now possess was only reprinted last year; still lists cars such as the Austin Maestro built 1983 - date (they stopped making those in the mid 90s !) but such info on all the Fords was updated accordingly.Vehicles from the 1980s are now a rare sight these days and, despite having no character and looking mostly dull; some cars from this era are becoming collectable and are attaining "classic" status too.

Pleased to have
For some time I have owned the previous two publications and was delighted to find the 1970's and 1980's versions (1930's and 1945 - 1970) and have bought them both to make up the set. Good photos (in Black and white as previous) with lots of useful information. Occasionally one would like to have a little more info but you cannot have everything. There is much less nostalgia in the more recent volumes, especially the 1980's. Cars have become so similar, when once they were all so different. Very sad. But still worth buying the volume.

Great series with potted histories of the cars of the era with memory prompting photographs of the good the bad and the ugly. Great pity this series was not continued onwards.
