Q: Can this machine use metal bobbins?

The 44s includes 4 Singer class 15 transparent bobbins. We strongly recommend that you use only the style and type of bobbin included with the machine. Using a metal bobbin may have adverse effects on tension etc.

Q: Does the accessories kit include a walking foot? It is not listed in what is included but is shown in pictures here.

This Accessory Kit sold with the 44S as shown, does not include the walking foot. Only the Side-Cutter attqachment, Parallel sewing foot and the Non-Stick foot are in this particular kit.

Q: Will it handle the 9 layers of denim when hemming jeans?

The Singer 44S sewing machine is capable of sewing 1 layer of cotton pieces stitched together, 1 layer of thin quilt batting, and one layer of sweatshirt fabric, depending on the total thickness, with the proper machine settings and needle. The Singer model 44S presser foot lifts about ½ inch when the lifter is in the normal up position (at this point top tension is disengaged). The presser foot can lift to about 5/8 inch, by lifting the presser foot lifter higher, in order to give extra space for placement of thicker fabric or multiple layers of material under the presser foot more easily. The presser foot will not stay in the higher position without the lifter being held in the uppermost position. Always increase the stitch length (max length) when sewing thicker material or multiple layers to accommodate for the thickness. Also be aware that if you sew on multiple layers that are too thick and it raises the presser foot too high (higher than the normal up position), the top tension will be disengaged and the machine will not make a proper stitch (may jam machine).

Singer sewing machines do not last past two years

Great for beginners. For two years I used this and then the plastic parts of the motor will shred. And timing jumps off.Not meant for a lot of quilting. Will not use as a quilting machine.

Been using this for sail cover repairs and random boat upholstery. The only thing I dislike is the foot pedal is very light and slides around on a hard floor.
