good common sense approach
I discovered this book in an AARP publication I get. Upon reading, it is a simple to understand common sense approach to handling and managing yourself and your loved ones through the old age we are fast approaching. while I am not officially ready for Medicare or the retirement home thoughts, it has offered good advice in a forgiving way. this is far from the media who pound in perfection making many feel like failures. It is a way to approach this new phase of our lives that is, for me, not scary and offers good resources for further exploration. the author did a fine job for the topics. as one who is aging alone, it is nice to know I have resources and hope for my future.

Important retirement considerations for us all
Bart Astor provides an insightful map to assist those of us planning for as well as currently living retirement. The many variables to consider when preparing to retire can be truly overwhelming yet each must be taken into account if we hope to realize a fulfilling retirement. Astor is not afraid to dig into the details when it comes to areas such as health insurance, providing a better understanding of what is involved along with common misconceptions to avoid. We all want to stay busy and engaged in our second act and the author's Level of Activity Scale can help to better understand our individual activity levels so as to select those endeavors best suited to each of us. Definitely a useful road map for the rest of our life.

I did not read Mother Advice because I sent it back upon receipt. The reason was that it was a book for a son and I wanted a"girl" book going to college. I plan to order the one for a girl going to college..

Good book
I have not learned anything earth shattering from this book but I took a lot of accounting classes in college. I think someone in middle age or older would get some information from this book unless you are a CPA. I read it front to back and it was easy reading. Makes you stop and think about the future.

Pretty Basic Info
Although this info is pretty basic, like lots of necessary things in life, we tend to ignore or procrastinate those simple steps that might greatly benefit us. This easy-to-read guide is a good collection of those simple steps that everyone should not only read about, but actually use to take action.

Well written and very useful.
Well organized, thoughtful, and personable. There are lots of useful checklist. I found myself highlighting text and bookmarking every few pages. This is the book you'll want to refer to when it's time to make plans and get things done. There's more than just facts though; the author keeps it personal and from the heart, and that keeps it interesting.

Really Useful Book
This is a clear, insightful, and - above all - useful book. It's like having an extended conversation with a trusted friend (who happens to be an expert at retirement planning). For so many of the topics covered here, there are no answers that are right for everyone. The book does a great job of laying out the options, issues, and strategies associated with your "Second Adulthood." It's your job to apply it to your life and goals. Well done.

Good Book
The book made me think about the decisions that I'm going to have to make as I transition out of the work world and into retirement.I will be using the book as I move forward in my life. It was nice to see that someone studied and wrote about this subject. Being a numbers guy, I would have liked to see more statistics. All in all I think it was a good read.
