Warren Haynes other band
This is an excellent introduction to Govt Mule, if you have not heard of them before, and are looking for some quality guitar rock music. Warren Haynes leads this band, as well as stepping in for Dickie Betts in the Allman Brothers. This is not music in the same southern rock genre as the Allman Brothers, it is blues based rock.Warren is stellar on slide guitar, the guitar work is framed within excellent song craftsmanship as well. Some of the songs run long, but this is not a jam band.If you already know Gov' Mule and want more in this vein, check out Cry of Love's "Brother". Cry of Love's Guitarist, Audley Freed, contributes on Mule's Deep End Vol 1 on "Life on the Outside", and went on to play with the Black Crowes.Highlights:About to Rage is a slowburner, Slackjaw Jezebel uptempo funk rocker, as is Lola leave your light on.

The Mule Rises Again
The death of Allen Woody could have been the end of Gov't Mule. It took some soul searching for Warren Haynes before he decided "the Mule" would continue. After two studio albums and a live album with a revolving cast of bass players, the transformation is complete. The addition of Danny Louis on keys and a permanent bass player Andy Hess has signaled the beginning of a new era. At first listen, it may seem that the volume has been turned down from "11". That may be so but in return, you get a clarity and texture that maybe wasn't there before. Warren still fires off some of the most awesome yet effortless looking guitar solos that I've ever heard. Matt Abts still provides the thunder behind the skins. What I think is different is the fact that "the Mule" has taken it to the next level. This is their most fully realized album to date and it's a humdinger. One that places them squarely in the midst of some of the best rock and roll bands out there today. A place they were destined to be.

Deja Voodoo on vinyl
Other reviews cover the contents. If you like Mule or Warren I think its a great release. More musically complex than some other releases and not just extended jams.Specifically, I wanted to say that the Music on Vinyl pressing is nice. Heavy paper, good colors, heavy paper sleeves. Seems to be 180g but not sure. 2 flat vinyl discs with generally 2-3 songs per side. Great dynamic range, soundstage width and depth. No noted surface noise. Sometimes buying vinyl is a crapshoot but I'm happy with this. And, I got it here at a very attractive price compared to some other places.

Excellent grindy blues-rock.
Excellent grindy blues-rock. Like Trower Bridge of Sighs. So good to see they still make music this good.

Music is great, but..........
The Gov't Mule music is good, as always. However, advertising says the Deja Voodoo CD package includes a second EP (Extended Paly CD). It even has a sticker on the CD case that says so. However, the second CD is not included, and the crystal CD case is not even designed to hold one. A real disappointment.

Another Great Set Of Tunes From The Mulesters!
Really enjoyable album from start to finish with the signature Mule sound present on all tracks, curtesy in large part to Mr Haynes’ easily recognisable vocal and guitar sound.Decided to dock it a star as I’m not particularly taken with Michael Barbiero’s hand in the production and mixing of the album, which leaves it sounding a little flat and lacklustre to my ears.Moving into minor quibble territory, then the artwork/packaging has a cost cutting vibe to it which is a shame.
