Fantastic guide to raising children!
This book is wonderful!! I only wish it had been around when my older children were toddlers. Parenting is hard. I grew up as an only child in a single parent family, when my father died. My mom wasn't much of a disciplinarian and I definitely got into more trouble than I imagine I would have if my dad had been with us. When I had my own children, I felt totally overwhelmed, because I didn't have a good idea of how to parent based on my own childhood. There are also so many other things parents these days have to watch out for that weren't issues in our more simple 80's childhoods. This is the book I wish I had had! Thankfully there are still many insights that will be helpful raising the children that I have now, aged 5, 10, 13 & 15, as the book really does have useful information for all stages of development. I find it be very well balanced, meaning the author encourages you to be loving and kind to your children, but also to hold them accountable and try to build up their endurance and character. I believe if you were to follow the advice in this book, you would be setting your children on a healthy path to adulthood and that you would develop strong relationships with them as well. This book has inspired me to make changes in our family and to work harder at being a better parent! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!! Thank you Steve Hines! I want to give one to all my friends with young children!! It's the handbook to parenting they should give you at the hospital!

Stay fully engaged and be present in your kids lives
Salt, Light and Kids was a refreshing read on parenting in today's digital age. Mr. Hines went to the root of the issue when he talked about making sure that your kids know to cope with hard times and have the skills to navigate life's setbacks. It is more important than ever to stay connected with your kids as they are so very well connected to world around them. Never has there been a time in our history where kids can process simultaneous streams of information and make decisions quicker than they can today. Well done Steve !

5 star parent in real life too
First off, I’m the son of Steve (the author). Secondly, I wouldn’t give his book or any book a 5 star review just because I have any relationship w the person. I value authenticity more than I do a rating on Amazon. Now that I’ve said that, I truly think this book deserves 5 stars. It’s not too long and chapters aren’t repetitive which frustrates me w a lot of book. The content is great. I can also confirm that him and my mother are 5 star parents in real life, so he has walked the talk when it comes to this book. I’m 29 and still have a great relationship w both of my parents. Probably better than it’s ever been. And I can only thank them for that in big part from the Godly parenting principles laid out in this book.I’m actually buying this for all my friends who are having kids bc I think it has great value

Great read for the culture we live in
A really good read! This book is relevant and thought provoking. As the parent of college-age children, it was great to be reminded of some of life’s most important lessons with God’s word woven throughout. I highly recommend this book to parents of any age and will save a copy for my own kids to read as they will be navigating raising kids in today’s culture not too far down the road.

Time with Kids
Some really good pointers here, what’s import in life is time.. time as a family - and being present. Beware of the ill effects of Social Media.
