fascinating read
I'm doing a Leadership and Management course and as part of an assignment I had to write about Emotional Intelligence. I found myself more interested in this subject than the full assignment and ended up spending more time reading about EI than I did doing my assignment as I found it quite fascinating. It gives you a good chance to learn about becoming more self-aware, and being able to do the same with others and for me it has meant I have changed the way in which I work with some colleagues. Also by getting my colleagues more involved in understanding EI it has brought more harmony and better work attitude to the team.

For me, worldview expanding books
Before I read Working with Emotional Intelligence and Daniel Goleman's classic book Emotional Intelligence: why it can matter more than IQ, I genuinely feel that I had been neglecting an entire half of my being in life. I felt as though, in my career but also my personal life, there were all these invisible barriers around me that prevented me from accomplishing what I wanted in my job and personal life.I have always been academically smart, and people have always said I had my head in the clouds and that I didn't have common sense. I've struggled with social anxiety and self motivation. With Goleman's books, I feel like I have a whole new lens for looking at life. I can see how challenges that seemed intractable before to me (but easy to a lot of other people!) were caused not by a lack of this or that piece of information, but from neglecting my emotional maturity and social skills. Thanks to this book, I have a roadmap to challenging and developing myself in the ways that will make my life better. I'm 25 now, and I'm so glad I found these works at this point in my life as I genuinely feel more hopeful about the future now.In conclusion: Recommended!

You need this - whatever you do
Prepare yourself not just for some soul-searching, but for some real Eureka moments.Daneil Goleman's two EI books take you on a journey deep within, but also give you the tools to persuade, convince, and - yes - even manipulate those around you. It isn't NLP, it's what NLP was made from.Thoroughly researched, basic things like "why do certain pieces of music bring memories flooding back" get covered in a way that asks you to choose "do I want to keep that or shall I get rid of it?". Much more importantly, it addresses the kinds of questions we adults should be asking:* [Salesman, teacher, professor, marketer] if I want to persuade or convince, what signals am I looking for to continue down a track or change tactic? What methods usually work? What are the alternatives?* [Parent, teacher] What will determine each child's success? How can I develop those skills? What do they mean for me in later life without having learnt them in childhood?* [lawyer, solicitor, negotiator] what's top of the game? What am I missing that I need to learn/ develop? How can I go about it?This isn't a book about good ideas. This stuff works. It has worked for centuries, it has been researched and tested for decades, and it will probably work for centuries to come. Get it, read it, weep over lost opportunities, then reach for the stars and win!

Worth a read
Very interesting book and easy to read, even in little chunks. I was recommended this whilst on a recent course

Text is smaller than a normal novel and difficult to read for any length.
The text is a small size ( I would guess a 7 or 8 ) and spacing between lines is tight, making it difficult to read for those of us of an older generation.

A compelling book.
If you are not very emotionally aware this book is an eye opener, If your good with emotion this book is affirming in your beliefs and has interesting studies and incites for you.Daniel Goldman is able to analyse modern trends in science and condense a vast amount of proof for his theories across scientific disciplines.

A great read - but not all claims are justified
A great read with loads of thought provoking examples. However his main claim that EQ is a better indicator of success than IQ, is not backed up by any leading academics on the subject (i.e. Salovey, Mayer, Caruso, etc...). So if you're using this to open your eyes to the topic of emotional intelligence - great! It is well written, engaging, very practical and helpful. However if you're using this book to guide policy in an organisation, it is well worth reading wider, to less popular authors who have more justified claims. One suggestion would be "The Emotionally Intelligent Manager" by Caruso and Salovey.

Too much repeated chapters with same point
This book of 382 pages can be written in 50/100 pages and kept me as a reader excited to keep reading.Chapters and chapters telling stories that E.I. is important in company x and the chapter after talking about the E.I is also important in Company Y.Like ok... I mean I agree with you, that's actually the reason I bought the book, to take me deeper in the topic not to read that it is important.
