Abus a super tough and well engineered padlock.
This is an Abus padlock I purchased a few months ago and thought now would be a good time to submit a review. The lock itself apparently has a huge number of potential key combinations making it very secure from someone potentially having a key that would fit it. The mechanism is very smooth and easy to operate. It has not managed to freeze up even during several sub zero nights experienced over the last few weeks. I think the lock would resist. the attentions of all but the most determined of thieves. I would not hesitate in recommending this lock for your security needs, just make sure what you attach it to something that is as robust and thief resistant as the lock itself. Great engineering and an insurance approved lock that would give you great confidence in its ability to protect your hard earned valuables. I set great precedence in the feedback's left for products on Amazon and always review as honestly as possible. Expensive but so are the things the locks are protecting.

A solidly built padlock
There are many padlocks available for sale on the market, and as with anything you get what you pay for - a search on YouTube will show how easily some locks can be opened with picks, however this particular series of locks from Abus are based on disc cylinders which are a lot harder to pick (although still possible with a specialist tool) - in addition to this, this series of locks are insurance rated using the CEN scale, this particular lock being rated at CEN 4 (out of a possible maximum of 6). It comes with 2 keys, one of which has a blue LED built into it in case it's required to be used at night. It's pretty much physically resistant to most types of attack such as freezing etc, although any lock can be penetrated by a determined individual with an angle grinder - the difference is just the amount of time needed and the amount of noise that is made - no security system is impenetrable. The locking mechanism itself locks both sides of the shackle when engaged which means if someone tries to cut the shackle with a bolt cutter (not that they'd be able to as it's specially hardened), they'd have to make two cuts in order to make off with they were trying to steal. When the key is used to open the lock, only one side of the shackle opens, although this can be changed by unscrewing a small allen bolt on the side of the lock - once this has been done the entire shackle will come away from the body of the lock, making it easier to fit in a tight location (e.g. right in the corner of two walls) etc.Lastly it's worthy to note that it isn't possible to change the cylinder in this particular model of the padlock, although Abus make one where this can be done with the letters RK (for Re Keyable) preceding the model name.If you do happen to be after a CEN level 6 padlock, then my recommendation would be the Abloy PL362 which is an absolute beast of a padlock for around 140 GBP, or the Sargent & Greenleaf (S&G) 951 Padlock - which retails for around 1360 USD ....

Quality just cannot be beaten, not now, not ever.
Very simple. In this life, you get what you pay for. This is one hell of a quality lock. I bought it... so I should know. While I intially moaned about the high price, Boy... am I glad I did purchase it. Listen... if you just want to secure your childrens toys outdoor, this is overkill. BUT... if you have lawn mowers, strimmers and other valuable kit you want secured... go for this. Do note...... in this lock.. the key will. STAY IN THE LOCK until you relock it. However, by removing an allen screw you can allow the whole shackle to be removed if you prefer that method. In summary.. yes a professional angle grinder will get thru this lock... given time , but nothing much else... unless you have a JCB to hand which can excert 8 tons of pulling power ? Probably unlikely? Insurance companies rate this 11mm lock CEN4 and the 14mm one CEN 5. That should tell you something.Just one quick point: This lock comes in TWO shackle sizes. MAKE SURE that the shackle sixe you buy fits the opening of the clasp, or hasp, you want to put the shackle thru. I have the 11mm one, the 14mm one is too big... so check this out before you order.Allow me to make one final point, which we all have had to learn the hard way: Remember this: The joy of the low price is soon forgotten, but the misery of poor quality lingers forever.So... from the heart, an absolute top quality lock.Buy it... and sleep in peace.Albert.

good security
Like the strong, hard to break open padlock. Quality item and make.

A Serious Padlock
This is a serious padlock. It is solidly built and clearly means business. It comes two keys, one of which has a little blue led on it for illuminating the lock. Very swish. The shackle has a 11mm diameter, so make sure the chain or staple it's going through is big enough. There is a little plastic lever underneath to operate a cover for the keyhole to keep the water and dirt out. You can't lock it without the key, so no risk of accidentally locking it.However, I only give it four stars for two reasons:1. The shackle comes off completely when unlocked, so you can't twist it round and hang it up unlocked. The key also won't stay hanging in the lock unless twisted slightly. Together, these points mean you can't hang the padlock easily to store temporarily whilst you've got your door open.2. The key is surprising fiddly - you have to insert it gently and make sure it is fully inserted before twisting, or you can get the lock out of alignment which is fiddly to correct. The instructions note this issue, so it's clearly a known limitation of the design.

The daddy
I've been using the same Abus Granit locsk for years both on motorbikes and Garage doors. They have withstood the elements and the test of time (mine are about 20 years old and are still going strong), so on that basis they represent amazing value for money. I also think they are an effective visual detterant as I've not seen an attempt to pick the lock or the locks sustain any type of brute force attack.
