The Great Race [Blu-ray]

A 60's Romantic Comedy Slapstick Thriller
The Great Race is one of those 60's movies that had beautiful people in it, is very funny with slapstick humor, and just a lot of fun. The actors and actresses were some of the best known at that time period. They all had comedy backgrounds and the movie is just a bunch of fun. Of course, the movie ends with the man getting the girl and the villain getting beat, but this all happens with a fantastic pie fight. It's just a funny wonderful movie that will put a smile on your face.

It’s an awesome movie! Old humor but still good ole fashion fun.

One of the best romance comedies of all time
Natalie Wood gives an enchanting performance as a woman bound and determined to advance women's rights in 1920's America. But she didn't count on running into Tony Curtis, at the top of his game playing a man who is quite happy with men being in charge, in other words, the status quo. Into this mix comes Jack Lemmon and his sidekick Peter Falk as two bumbling wannabes for the slap-stick humor 'n' you got a recipe for a great movie. But as they say in the biz "that ain't all folks!" Dorothy Provine has got a great musical number in the middle, Ross Martin plays a conniving Russian with aspirations to overtake the monarchy, played by none other than Jack Lemmon in a double role, Keenan Wynn as Tony's lovable but gullible assistant. Arthur O'Connell as another man whose bastion of male leadership is being assailed with Vivian Vance in a surprising cameo as his emancipated wife. Whew, what a movie. As they say, "They don't make 'em like this anymore." This movie is so memorable, that occasionally, when waiting for the elevator, I'll do my best impression of Jack Lemmon to my wife saying "Push the button, Max!" You'll get it when you see this movie. Safe to watch with the kids, who'll be tickled by the antics of the afore mentioned Falk and Lemmon, and various other goings on not to mention a good ol' fashioned pie fight. Adults will appreciate the more contemporary issues of a woman using whatever means are at her disposal to be recognized in a quote Man's World unquote and a man's resistance to change. Granted, the ending might be a bit cheesy in 2023, but for those of us who long for a smart, funny movie you can watch with your kids, you just cant beat it.

EPIC! A tribute to the comedy of Laurel & Hardy. Fun from beginning to end.
One of the classic films of the 60's and 70's presented with an Overture, Intermission and Exit Music! It takes you on a marvelous journey with every form of slapstick comedy thrown in - even the biggest pie fight ever!

Comedy classic
Long but entertaining. Jack Lemmon's performance is over the top. The best scene: a beautifully staged duel between star Tony Curtis and multi-talented (then unknown) Ross Martin of TV's Wild Wild West fame. Lots of period detail, vibrant cinemagraphic colors, a sight gags.
