Product Description The third release in the hyper-successful Batman franchise saw several changes of personnel. Director Tim Burton made way for Joel Schumacher, while Michael Keaton was replaced by Val Kilmer as the man in the cowl and cape. Former District Attorney, Harvey 'Two-Face' Dent (Tommy Lee Jones), is terrorising Gotham City when a new villain appears on the scene - the Riddler (Jim Carrey). Together they plot to discover Batman's identity, using a device which can probe the human mind. Meanwhile, the caped crusader has been joined by Robin (Chris O'Donnell), whose trapeze-artist family have recently been slain by Two-Face. .co.uk Review When Tim Burton and Michael Keaton announced that they'd had enough of the Batman franchise, director JoelSchumacher stepped in (with Burton as coproducer) to make this action-packed extravaganza starring Val Kilmer as the capedcrusader. Batman is up against two of Gotham City's most colourful criminals, the Riddler (a role tailor-made for funnyman Jim Carrey) and the diabolical Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones), who join forces to conquer Gotham's population with a brain-draining device. Nicole Kidman plays the seductive psychologist who wants to know what makes Batman tick. Boasting a redesigned Batmobile and plenty of new Bat hardware, Batman Forever also introduces Robin the Boy Wonder (Chris O'Donnell) whose close alliance with Batman led more than afew critics to ponder the series' homoerotic subtext. No matter how you interpret it, Schumacher's take on the Batman legacy is simultaneously amusing, lavishly epic and prone to chronic sensory overload. --Jeff Shannon

One of the best Batman movies!
See the film rather than just listen to other people's negative comments. Only leave a review afterwards. Surprisingly, its has a very good cast and the soundtrack is very fitting with the movie itself. I am not a fan of Nicole Kidman but I like her lovely character in this. You will not be disappointed, it is full of action and some comical scenes that will keep you entertained.

Had so much potential, But still great fun
I have to admit, Batman Forever is my ultimate guilty pleasure film. It brings a nostalgic feeling to me that not many films do. From a pure entertainment stance it doesn't get better than this. But as a Batman film its not what we should expect. Tim Burton's gothic soul and gloomy city has been replaced by something more colourful and lighter. Yet take it for what it is and Batman Forever is great. The best thing about the film is Batman himself, Val Kilmer. Kilmer is horribly underrated in the Batman world. His Bruce Wayne had the haunted feel to him while also being a suave playboy. He is also the best Batman, he looks the part, has the right voice and the dark look. He was let down by the script, put him in a serious Batman film and he'd be considered the best. The action sequences are exciting. Jim Carrey is over the top but in a fun way, and hes very entertaining to watch. Nicole Kidman and Chris O'Donnell give decent support, as do the returning Pat Hingle and Michael Gough. The darker parts of the film is where it excels, and more time should have been spent on them. However, Two-Face is a let down. Tommy Lee Jones can play a straight guy, which would have been great in this film to bounce off Carrey. Instead he comes off like a bad Joker rip-off. The neon lights and general brightness does get rather annoying. Also the score isn't as good as the brilliant Danny Eflman one from the Burton films.Given a bit more time and a darker tone i think Batman Forever could be one of the best Batman films. However, its still a great film in its own right.

Beware: there are shots missing from this release
Batman Forever is Joel Schumacher's first foray into Batman, and unlike the disastrous Batman & Robin, he pulls it off well here. There is a sense of spectacle, of grandeur and character, to the whole movie. The whole look of the movie is definitely A-plus. The set pieces, costumes and use of colour are amazing. It looks like it cost billions. Unlike Batman & Robin, though, in Batman Forever the production values draw out the colourful character of everything.Harvey "Two-Face" Dent (Tommy Lee Jones) is Gotham City's former district attorney, losing his mind when doused with acid and now has a literal split personality (which the movie delights in underlining as literally as it can) with a personal vendetta against Batman. Criminal psychologist Doctor Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman) arrives in Gotham to help the authorities, and Batman (whom she immediately falls for) stop him. Things get worse when misunderstood scientist Edward Nygma (Jim Carrey), under the alias the Riddler, teams up with Two-Face in his quest to bring Batman to his knees. As well as all that, Bruce Wayne (Val Kilmer) finds himself taking care of Dick Grayson (Chris O'Donnell), an acrobat orphaned thanks to Two-Face and with a vendetta against him.Batman Forever is a fun movie with a lot of character, lavish enough without going too far (such as Batman & Robin). The writing is reasonably clever, the theme of not letting revenge rule your life being a pretty central one, as well as Bruce Wayne and Batman's coexistence. You can tell that this movie was made in the 90s with the rich, delicious colours and the glow-in-the-dark lights (where applicable). The cast all deliver their performances well; Val Kilmer's understated, even detached performance is perfect for Bruce Wayne. Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey might be said to ham up their roles a bit much at times, but they do it with such charisma and character that all is forgiven. Chris O'Donnell gives a solid, emotional performance that makes us feel for the character's plight. Only a good actress like Nicole Kidman could've given such depth and appeal to what could've been a very cardboard character. Finally, Michael Gough is excellent as Alfred. The only notably bad performance is the security guard at the beginning of the movie. All of this makes Batman Forever a worthwhile, entertaining adventure movie that holds its own under repeated viewings. This DVD, however, is terrible. Why? Because certain moments of the film have been cut out. A very vital part of Stickley's last scene, for instance, has been cut out, as well as certain other moments. It's as though this DVD was made from a made-for-tv version that had certain shots cut for time, and that is very sloppy. If you want to buy this film - which I wholeheartedly recommend - this is not the version you want.
