Q: can this replace distilled water for a humidifier?

5-stage filters produce water that is a similar purity level to that produced from a distiller. Additionally, our systems don't need electricity and operate based on gravity. Many of our customers use ZeroWater for humidifers, CPAP Machines, Coffee Machines, plants, animals, etc. for this very reason.

Q: Can I repalce the spigot with a stainless steel one that fits a 5/8 in opening?

The spigot is not interchangeable on this unit

Q: After a few weeks there is now a fishy/rubbery odor coming from the water coming out. If its just the filter that needs changed, what is causing this?

Thank you for contacting ZeroWater. After Zero Water filters have been exhausted and have not been changed, the water produced from the filter may have a distinct smell or taste and the TDS reading may be higher than your tap water. This is a result of the water passing over the “spent” Ion Exchange Resin beads. We have gone to great lengths in reducing that taste/smell in product development however this is simply a characteristic of filtering water with a Dual-Ion Exchange system. In order to avoid a change in the taste of the water it is important to test the water regularly and change the filter when the digital meter reads 006.
