This is a great sharpening tool. Works so well....easy, effective. An excellent, high quality product. Get it!
This is a great, all purpose coarse diamond whetstone. It is just a bit too small for larger blades, but works well for small to medium sized pocket knives and kitchen knives. I have found that it still works well for larger knives or even axe blades, but using it for such requires more care due to the small top surface area of the sharpening flat. This whetstone may be taken off its plastic base and held in the hand to be used as a sharpening block. When I use this, I simply wet the surface with water, and the plastic footing on the base has enough grip to my kitchen counter top that I can glide the blade across the flat without having to anchor the whetstone block base to the counter top. This is my second purchase of this exact DMT coarse grade whetstone sharpener. This coarse grade sharpener can remove a lot of material from a blade edge in just a few low pressure passes. Once you get your blade initially edged the way you like with this coarse flat, you can then go to medium, then fine, and extra fine grade if needed. DMT has all those grades as well available on Amazon. I also own those grades. PS Don't forget your leather belt strap at the end. You won't need to go back and use this coarse grade again unless the knife becomes really damaged somehow. I always use this diamond flat just with water, and clean it off by water faucet pressure rinsing afterwards. One mistake I made when I was starting out was that I pressed down too hard, and wore out my first coarse DMT whetstone prematurely. As they say, just let the diamonds do the work. You may, almost, just let the blade float across the diamond flat surface during the process of putting an edge on the blade. Almost no pressure is needed if you take some time. Using low pressure and patience will keep this diamond whetstone functional for years or even decades of use. In my opinion, the DMT diamond sharpeners make stone sharpeners nearly obsolete. The stone flats do not seem to work as well or as fast, and require much more effort to get the same level of sharpness. For a novice sharpener, the DMT diamond tools will make it possible to sharpen any knife to a razor's edge with just a little effort and minimal experience. This product has my highest recommendation. Do not hesitate to get this for yourself. You will love it and use it for years and years to come. It's a great sharpening tool, and worth the money hands down.

Awesome Sharpeners
Please don't make the mistake I have made using these Diamond Stones. First of all don't bear down hard, let the diamonds do the work, you don't have to bear down. If you bear down and grind hard you're just going to shorten the life of the Stone. The second thing is sprinkle a little water when you start to sharpen it and wash it from time to time and store it dry, But don't sharpen with the stone dry. At first it's a little rough but just a short time of sharpening like in a few minutes you might want to use a cheap knife to break it in but don't Bear Down Let the diamonds cut the steel instead of forcing the steel to the diamonds you'll tear diamonds off and the stone will not last as long if you are hard on it. If you just use it from time to time and you don't bear down on it this thing could last for many years honestly and if you use it a lot it could still last for a couple or three years if you take it easy. These are my favorite Diamond Stones.

Coarse plate, good product. Lazy delivery person.
DMT products are middle of the road with middle of the road prices. Diamond plates cut very fast until they are broken in and appear to dull but that is the way they are supposed to work. I have a Trend fine plate and it is s superior product for 4 times the price. You get what you pay for. Steer clear of the cheap ones unless you just need it for a few uses. The delivery person left the package at least 10' from the front door on the path to my house. not the first time. Way to go amazon.

Wow the Blue really gives back life to a dull knife
My grandparents had this blue stone for years when I was going up and I recall sharpening my knife on it and it working fantastic. I tried a few different stones as an adult only to be dissatisfied. Gave a call to see what kind of stone she has and ended up being this. Ordered it and made about 8-10 passes on some knives that has lost there edge and wow. If this thing gives half the life of the original my grandma still has I’ll be satisfied.

Easy sharpening - Works really well.
This wetstone - combined with one of the finer grades - puts a great edge on my heavily used - and somewhat abused - chisels.

Great for sharpening kitchen knives
Great value, performs very well. Diamond grit does well with good kitchen knives that you do not want torn up.

GREAT!! but careful...
This stone is absolutely amazing. Along with the fine and x-fine grit sharpeners, it dominates any other sharpener. no soaking, no cleaning. just dab water and pat dry. HOWEVER... if you want a good, sharp finish on your knife, you must get the fine and/or the x-fine grit. It's also a good idea to get the diamond sharpening rods. Those just finish off the sharpening process and makes your knife razor-sharp.All in all, good, but you need to get finer sharpeneners.

Not as coarse as expected
The diamond stone is of good quality and is working well, but was not as coarse as I had hoped and, as many diamond stones, seems to drop a level of coarseness after a month or so of use.
