Bruno's Cookbook: Recipes and Traditions from a French Country Kitchen Review: Good recipes, beautiful illustrations - Beautiful illustrations. I usually get kindle books and I’m glad i didn’t this time. It’s fun to look up the recipes I remember from the Bruno books. I probably won’t be preparing wild boar but it’s fun anyway! Review: Heart-killing! Delicious! - This book may send you straight to the coronary department. It's a wonderful world of delicious fats and oils and wonderful preparations. FANTASTIC RECIPES for BRUNO FANS AND BEYOND!
Being a huge Bruno fan (I was so inspired that I traveled to Dordogne TWICE after reading all the Bruno novels: in 2022 and this year, 2023), I could hardly wait for this cookbook to come out: the cuisine of Perigord region of France is unbeatable, and one could only envy the easiness with which Bruno cooked his fantastic meals on the pages of Martin Walker's books! Well, we - regular folks, I mean - we need EXACT RECIPES to be able to reproduce what Bruno does in the books, and boy, this book does not disappoint! Long story short, I did this "Port Roast with Apples" recipe for dinner with friends, and it was an absolute sensation! Looking forward to trying more of these fantastic recipes! Bravo!!! (I ordered the book for my daughter-in-law for Christmas - she was the one who introduced me to Bruno novels!). Bon appetit, everyone!

Don't buy Christmas presents too early😀
Fun book. I had actually intended it to be a Christmas present for my mother but she told us when she purchased one for herself. Oh well, I collect cookbooks and this one is cute for fans of the Bruno books.

Not always quick, but reliably tasty
As a reader of Bruno Chief of Police books, I have often been interested in what he serves his friends and colleagues so I was glad to see this book. So far I have made the meatballs in the roasted tomato and garlic sauce, the parsley and radish salad, and the green beans. Most recently I made the lamb shanks with walnuts and roasted lemon slices. It was delicious and the friends I shared it with thought so too.

So Yummy!
It would help if you have read one of Martin Walker's books about Bruno the Perogord policeman, but not necessary ! The good is fabulous with pictures and instructions. I've made 2 of the things already. Great gift-great for you!

I've never heard of Bruno or the crime/detective fiction books in which he stars. A friend showed me the book and it intrigued me. Since the book arrived I've tried 4 recipes (1 fish, 2 meat, 1 dessert) - all of which were terrific successes. I would say you do need to be an established home cook comfortable cooking from scratch from a recipe, but you don't have to be a chef to use this cookbook. First off, the pictures of the French countryside make it a worthy coffee table book in themselves. But the recipes themselves are first-rate. While some ingredients are probably not going to be on hand (truffles, duck fat, various wines), I've found that the recipes are so fundamentally sound and well-designed that they stand up to even multiple substitutions of ingredients really well (butter for duck fat, onions for scallions, Emu sherry for Bergerac Sec, white sauce for heavy cream, etc., etc., etc.). Small added touches of spices (like Herbes de Provence, garlic, and allspice) and even omissions of small items still results in a superb outcome. Lastly, the three non-dessert dishes I cooked all resulted in the most marvellous "French country kitchen" aroma in the kitchen. Not overpowering, but simply very satisfying.

Para los aficionados de los libros de Martín Walker donde el jefe de policía Bruno nos deleita no sólo con sus habilidades de investigador sino con sus artes en la cocina. Las recetas son bastante asequibles en general ¡y los resultados deliciosos!

A great introduction to French country food, with the added spice of the, albeit, fictional, Bruno's sleuthing.
