Great product for aquarium owners!
Great product for aquarium owners! I was fed up with using various thermometers to check the temperature of my fish tanks, they're never completely accurate . This is so simple! I can test the temperature in a split second and have now managed to get all my tanks the same temperature with some tweaking. I don't use the laser for testing the water as I don't really fancy blinding the fish.

The best IR/laser thermometer I have owned ...
I’ve bought and tried a number of the IR/laser thermometers now, and this is definitely the best so far. Seems very accurate and consistent.It does though seem to suffer from the same shortcomings that I have noticed with other thermometers that use a common approach: the more reflective a surface is, the greater the error margin in the results displayed. Not a problem for me, but may be for you.

Very useful for spot checks on surface temperatures. Used it to help diagnose where leaks in my French doors were coming from. Takes the guess work out of trying to measure surface temperatures.

Impossible to get accurate temperature measurements without knowing the emissivity of the surface.
I bought this to use as a reference for measuring temperatures accurately, unfortunately the value displayed depends entirely on the material that you point the device at. I needed to measure temperatures of copper tubing and the initial readings were way off. When I covered the pipe with masking tape I got better values but the value displayed depends entirely on the emissivity setting you use and the values given in the booklet are pretty useless. The only one for copper is for polished copper and is lower than the unit can be adjusted to.I found a more extensive chart on engineeringtoolbox.com but even this does not cover all circumstances.Great if you are looking at the same type of surface for all your readings as a comparison tool but to get an accurate reading you need to know the exact emissivity of the surface you are looking at.As an example I am measuring the temperature of a copper pipe, fairly old and has a dull appearance.possible values for emissivity 0.78 for copper with thick layer of oxide, 0.23 to 0.52 for polished copper. So trying these two values I get 34C at .78 and 39C at 0.52 and 56C at 0.23 so which one is correct??? If I apply some masking tape and set emissivity to 0.95 I read 40C whilst my probes tell me its 54C.So I am afraid it really doesnt do the job I wanted, but if you know the emissivity of the target I am sure it would give an accurate measurement.
