The Odd Life of Timothy Green by Geoff Zanelli

Zanelli's Most Personal Score To Date Is Emotionally Engrossing & Thematically Rich
The family drama is a genre that has resulted in some amazing scores. I think people forget that in order for a score to be good it doesn't need to measure up to Gone With The Wind or The Mission, but service the film as best as it can. Geoff Zanelli happens to be one of my favorite composers who I've been listening to since the beginning of his composing career. I've listened to his sound shape and grow. His action scores are top notch fun, and his drama scores bring the heart. Somehow though it feels like something clicked with The Odd Life Of Timothy Green. This thematically sound score reaches deep, and I mean deep. The music flows with heart and the central motif anchors it to make it memorable. The characters and emotions come through as clear as they can for a score that resonates with the listener. The music feels personal and you can feel Geoff's voice in every note. It's this personal touch that makes The Odd Life Of Timothy Green something special, and Zanelli's most emotionally resonating work since The Pacific. The film revolves around an infertile couple who plant their ideas of the perfect child in the ground. With a touch of Disney magic they have a little boy the next morning, but with an interesting physical trait. On his ankles he has some leafs, but imperfections and all he becomes the son they wanted. While the title of the film has Timothy Green in the title, it definitely centers on the parents. Their journey is what echos in the music. While Timothy's story arc is nice, it really doesn't have the weight of what the parents go through. Zanelli plays off of this and that's where his music stems from. The score has a "folk" feel to it with instruments like the accordion and even pencils for percussion (a plot reference). The use of a female vocal humanizes the score and adds even more to round it out. For me the best aspect was that he was able to sonically represent John Toll's cinematography. I was able to close my eyes and feel the reds, oranges and yellows of fall in the mid-atlantic. The film takes place in Pennsylvania and I'm originally from Maryland, and boy did this film make me miss fall. You can actually hear the color palette of Toll's cinematography in the sonic colors of Geoff's score; it's quite extraordinary. As the score moves along we come to a very nice and emotional ending. The music wraps everything up in a moving way with a glimmer of hope at the end.The Odd Life Of Timothy Green is Geoff Zanelli's best score to date in my opinion. It's emotionally moving and thematically engrossing. It has a strong voice that is clearly Geoff's and a unique sonic identity. It's a heartwarming experience with a few moments of subtle beauty. The score reminds me of family drama scores I grew up with like Howard Shore's Mrs. Doubtfire that really stayed with me. The strength of the score rises above the film and makes for an amazing standalone experience. It's a small score with big emotions that should not be overlooked.

This was a movie I wanted from the time it came out. No one in my family was interested in seeing it at the movies, so I ordered it. It came in very quickly, packaged well, and was in great condition. Thanks

"Timothy Green" soundtrack is a game-winning score!
I've always felt a soundtrack should recall the film it represents. The score to "...Timothy Green" functions beautifully in that capacity. It also counterbalances the sentimantality of the film and still stands on its own as a musical entity. I very much enjoyed this CD.

This was a sweet heart warming movie that the whole family could and should see. The acting was great, and like I said, there was nothing in this movie that was offensive in any way. Also love anything that Jenifer Garner is in.
