Reliable operation great results.
This item displays "Wolverine" on the integrated screen for a split second after power-up. Draw your own conclusions. The item I received is dated 2017 and is, therefore, an older model (the film input gate is a piece of foam and not, as in later models, a metal gate. The first run was not brilliant as the film kept "mis-feeding". After some research (via youtube" I discovered that the film output gate is height adjustable, although this is not intended to be adjusted by the user and doing so will void the warranty. Nevertheless, I performed the adjustments (which are extremely fine and critical) and the unit now functions flawlessly. This is, in my opinion, a failure on the part of the manufacturer/supplier as the unit should have been in perfect calibration upon receipt. So far I have digitised ten 50ft (5”) reels of standard 8 film (only one of which stuck but this was a result of a poorly made repair splice in its' past). The other eight reels went through with no trouble. Each 50ft reel (3 inch) takes approximately 25 minutes to digitise. I have also digitised four 5 inch (200ft) and one 7 inch (400ft ) reels of super 8 sound film (NOTE : this machine does not record sound), all of which passed through the machine without any problem or error). This represents 1,650 feet of film and all was fine.I would recommend that you "babysit" the machine by checking every few minutes that the film is still running. There is no danger of fire as the light source utilises LED technology, which runs very cool. The machine does NOT auto-stop so you will have to allow for this.I had no concerns with leaving the machine unattended as there was no heat detectable even after running it non-stop through a 7 inch reel of film (about 400 feet) which took about 3 hours 20 minutes. NOTE : the unit is only supplied with a 5 inch, standard 8 take-up reel so you will have to supply your own take-up reel if you want to run bigger reels of film.I was delighted to discover that the unit was well packaged, in its' own, bespoke box and the contents included: -1 X digitising machine1 power adapter (fitted with moulded-on UK 13A plug)1 X Video cable (3.5mm to RCA Phono to allow use of a video monitor instead of the integrated display1 X USB cable to allow data transfer from the (removable) SD card to external device e.g. computer etc.1 X 5" take-up reel2 X standard 8 to super 8 reel adapters1 X 32GB SD card1 user manualAll you need, in fact, to get started right out of the box!My overall opinion is that this is a very good machine, within the domestic market, and the results I have achieved are far and above what I expected.I am not able to assess the Longevity of this machine but it seems to be well made and uses quality parts (such as a stepper-motor for the main drive and a good quality board-camera).The "guts" are accessible as the back cover is held on with small, standard posidrive screws, so when it does eventually go "belly-up", as it ultimately must, it is, at least, tinkerable.I hope that this review has been informative to you and that you are as satisfied with your machine as I am with mine.

Did not work
The machine was easy to use, it just did not work. It was easy to set the film in the right position and use the menu to adjust the framing and exposure, however on pressing the record button, nothing happened, the machine made a grinding noise for 1 second then reported an error “ Connect the power”, which is bizarre as the power was on, it had to be in order for the machine to show the error!! Nothing I did, or could do, resulted in anything other than the error message appearing.I sent it back someday and am in the process of getting the refund.

It works
Good transfer, good results on viewing. Fiddly to load film, and impossible to adjust up/down register while recording. Overall, worth the time and money.

My precious childhood memories are now digitally available for my children + grandchildren to see.
I've wanted to digitise my late father's cine films from 1960s/70s for many years but it's always been too expensive to have it done professionally. This fabulous little machine has made it possible for my husband and I to do it ourselves and I'm thrilled with the results. I now have hours of old family holidays, days out and weddings to share with my extended family. I can only repeat what others have already said in reviews. Wolverine is displayed in the power up screen (possibly indicating a good quality machine but old model). Loading the film is a little fiddly and it's helpful to have a torch or light to show where to thread the film. Occasionally films get stuck but for me it was only when the film had been spliced badly (too thick to go through the feed gate). Be patient as the digitising takes time (we found a 3 min film took about 25 mins). We also found it best to run it in the room we were sitting in case it did get stuck (it's very light so easy to move from room to room). The quality of my 50/60 year old films look better on a phone than a larger screen. All in all I'm delighted with this little machine + would willingly recommend it to others.

Disappointing overall
The media could not be loaded. I have managed to transfer a number of my old cine films using both of the machines supplied, but the first developed a software fault, and the second machine's take up reel keeps slipping....the only solution is to allow the film to fall to the floor or 'bin' which seemed to largely solve the problem. However, this resulted in a cherished part of my collection being ruined through being tangled.....so have started a return. Ultimately needs to be of old school Eumig level of German quality projector.....my late dad's is still running sweet after 50+ years!!

Be prepared to spend hours adjusting the frame
The unit is reliable enough, and the picture is as good as one might expect form 60-year old films. The problem is that there's no intelligence in the frame adjustment. One can set up the frame using the simple but straight-forward menu system and then start recording, but before long you'll see that the frame has drifted. You can't adjust on the fly, so you'll need to stop the recording, adjust the frame, and go again. Hence each reel you record will result in quite a few .mp4 files on the memory stick. You'll need to keep and eye on the little screen to make sure that the frame is still correct. Your only alternative is to use your chosen video editing software (not included) to zoom in and remove the top/bottom screen artifacts caused by the frame error.I'm still glad I bought this unit and can do my own digitization, however, as I don't think a third-party doing digitizing as a service would have been as diligent.

Excellent Product.
Excellent results worked without any problem. Nearly didn’t purchase due to negative reviews, which I can only put down to lack of understanding. Highly recommended.
