42 [DVD] [2013]

I know the story of Jackie Robinson, this was a little twee at times and it did skirt through his life & quite quickly. I personally would've liked to learn more about the younger Jackie. I think it could've developed the person a little more showing the true pressures & danger he really faced in MLB. *61 about Roger Maris' did the latter a lot better I thought during the year he beat Babe Ruth's Home Run record. Despite this I enjoyed 42 just need to get a good biography/autobiography to know Jackie Robinson as much as I can.

This is a lovely story about the "black man" overcoming racism in the years when segregation was normal especially down south of USA. This is based on a true story of the first Black Major League Baseball Player and is well told, shot and portrayed. But I think it could have been better if it had been made longer and dug a little deeper into this fascinating story. If you want a better film then watch The Express. But still it is an enjoyable film and worth a watch.

Very underrated film full of amazing performances and a great true story told throughout

Very good movie, acting is very good. A true story, eye-opening.

Baseball back in the days when prejudice against blacks was rife. Compelling viewing.

This was a good film for us both - I'm into baseball a bit, my missus not at all, but we both enjoyed it. Although it's sort of about baseball, that's just a context, really. One to watch again.

I enjoyed this film very much. Somewhat 'sanitised', I guess, as to what really happened but it does get across the atmosphere regarding race that existed at the time. Just shows what determination, and talent, can achieve.

I have watched this film many times and the story always moves me. I would like to think we are in more enlightened times. The acting and portrayal of the characters was excellent. I would recommend this film to all, to learn from history!
