Great alternative look at lore and myth
An "outside the box" interpretation of mythology premised on the feminine mystery of birth. Thought provoking!

Very Interesting Book
I am grateful for this book and I found it to be very interesting. The author makes plain some of the interpretations of our ancient stories. They are much more than simple "fairy tales". I highly recommend this to anyone wishing to get into the mind of our ancestors.

Essential
This book will give you a baseline understanding of ancient European stories. Even if you don't believe it, I think it's very worth understanding the perspective.

Observative.
One of the more eye opening books I've ever read in my life. Grammar errors aside (the message is always more important than how retentive one is about grammar), this is full of amazing observations about the world. I remember growing up with these tales, and not making much sense of them, believing them to be of some kind of hundreds year old fantasy genre of bedtime stories. Sadly, most of us can only see the ancient world through a fantasy perspective these days as taught by video games, novels, etc. Varg & Marie (especially, as only a woman could be the star of this book properly) have taught me to look at the real world for clues as to how our ancestors thought about the world around them/us, as opposed to simply taking poetry at face level. I hope more "Pagans" take this mentality to heart when approaching the material from a critical perspective in the future.

This book is full of a-ha! moments, linking and explaining several strains of European traditions, customs, and legends. The insight and analysis are uncanny but not difficult to understand. This book will give you a sharper eye when examining other art and literature to see if those creators also knew a secret or two about lost wisdom. And if you’re looking for spiritual direction this book may hold profound insights as well. The information is just now washing over me, but I know I’ll not be the same after reading it. You should give it a try!

I have always been fascinated by European traditions and mythology ...
I have always been fascinated by European traditions and mythology and where they came from but I could never find any real meaningful explanations for them. Marie Cachet seems to have scratched that itch for me. The Secret of The She-Bear not only offers explanation (in detail) about much of pre-Christian European culture and religion but also links them to mythology and stories told in other parts of the world tens of thousands of years ago. One should keep in mind that some of the explanations are intuitive leaps and the authors own hypotheses, although I find them to be reasonable conclusions. Nevertheless this is a well written and extensive book with some very interesting ideas and interpretations of Pagan mythology and how it has influenced our customs and stories to this day.

A great insight into ancient symbolism from Europe and beyond.
Great book! Very thought provoking and detailed. I'll not be able to look at "Fairy Tales" the same way again...and that is a good thing. There is a lot of detail in this book that I did not put together until now and I am a life-long reader of various mythologies and tales. Some of the conclusions on symbolism seemed like a bit of a reach but if it just told me what I already "knew" then why read it? Well worth the price. I had been waiting for this to come out in English since my French is poor on a good day. Thank you!

She provides really awesome comparisons and similarities
Anyone interested in ancient European mythology should give this a read. She provides really awesome comparisons and similarities. Lots of truth in this book but there is some I can not accept. Take it with a grain of salt, it's a good read.

Revelador
