![The Beatrix Potter Collection - The World Of Peter Rabbit & Friends [DVD]](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51kFDL2ViFL.jpg)

Based on the original Peter Rabbit Books by Beatrix Potter join Peter and his friends in this 3 DVD Box Set. Contains the following - the World Of Peter Rabbit & Friends featuring The Tale Peter Rabbit & Benjamin Bunny, The Tale Of the Flopsy Bunnies and Mrs Tittlemouse, The Tale of Tom Kitten and Jemima Puddle-Duck, The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and Mr Jeremy Fisher, The Tale Of Mr Tod:The Further Adventures of Peter Rabbit & Benjamin Bunny, The Tale Of Two Bad Mice and Johnny Town-Mouse, The Tale Of Pigling Bland, The Tale of Sammuel Whiskers or The Roly-Poly Pudding and The Tailor of Gloucester. Review: Unmissable gem. - A lovely buy for any Beatrix Potter fan, or for any child who may become one. I used to watch these episodes at my grandmother's house on VHS when I was little, I'm delighted to find them again. The packaging is an attractive design, and of good quality. The video/audio quality is also good, around what you'd expect considering the original format it was filmed in. There are black bars at the edges if you watch on a widescreen TV, but you quickly get used to it. You get 15 different short stories to choose from, which for the price is an absolute steal. Niamh Cusack is a delight as Beatrix Potter, her short sequences between stories are beautifully done, very convincing and true to Beatrix's history. You find yourself transported back to Victorian rural English countryside, all cottage teapots and pony cart rides along cobbled streets, children in white pinafores and straw hats, and rainy green hills with wild rabbits hopping about. There is also a glimpse of (wealthy) Victorian London at Christmas in one of the tales. The animated parts were hand-drawn, a labour of love, and it shows. They look exactly like Beatrix's original illustrations. Subtle watercolour palettes throughout, and the musical score is utterly enchanting. An excellent voice cast bring the tales to life, with names like Hugh Laurie, Rik Mayall, Ian Holm, Richard Griffiths, Rosemary Leach, Richard Wilson, Patricia Routledge (now Patron of the Beatrix Potter Society), Derek Jacobi, Pam Ferris and Felicity Kendal. In my personal opinion, far superior to any gaudy garish computer-animated offering of contemporary times. Review: Great to have it! - Perfect!

So glad to own this again
I see this is ever so slightly edited!! Naughty Peter and Benjamin don’t get their bottoms smacked in the dvd version!!! But other than that it seems exactly the same as the VHS version, as soon as I saw the intro and heard the music it was super nostalgic and I love the fact that they’ve maintained the original aspect ratio too (I hate it when they make older stuff ‘wide screen’ ie they cut half the picture off trying to pretend it’s wide screen by zooming and cropping the picture. These are so beautifully animated and the sound track is amazing.

Children enjoying the CDs.
Love the Beatrix Potter books and characters - but had forgotten how true to life and so rather gruesome some of the animal actions are!

A national treasure
Beatrix Potter's stories were favourites of my children when they were growing up in the 1970's, so when they began to produce grandchildren I bought the VHS versions of this collection, and was astounded by the production values reflected in the adaptation of the stories to video. As two of my grandchildren are still under 6, and the VHS player has bitten the dust, I bought the DVD version, and was very pleased to find that apart from a couple of minor alterations, the DVDs are as good or better than the original VHS versions. The videos were originally commissioned by Coates, Beatrix Potter's publisher; the dialogue sticks as closely as possible to the original text, and the animated characters are closely based on the original illustrations in the books. The effect is to enable the original story line to shine clearly through the new medium without inhibiting the watcher's imagination. This series was a true labour of love. For me, and, I suspect, for many people, the piece de resistance is "The Tailor of Gloucester", From the initial cameo of a Victorian Christmas Eve, to the poor tailor's illness, "worn to a ravelling", to the old nursery rhymes, and the magical denouement, this video is a small masterpiece.
